This is one of those books where I’m glad I commit to the 30% rule. After the first stave (I read it on The Pigeonhole, so it was split up over 10 days), I wanted to give up. I felt pretty much the same after day 2, but at day 3, I wanted to know what had happened. I wanted the Ruth, and I was all in!
It’s a very introspective book, lots of descriptions of places, people, scenes and above all, feelings. JB has a lot of feelings, although she appears to be in a state of shock for a majority of the novel. I mean, her husband falls off the ship they’re celebrating their anniversary on. Not an ideal situation!
And then the truth starts to come out about the reality of their marriage.
The word “marmite” has been bandied around quite a lot regarding this book, and I’ve come down on the “like it” side. It’s certainly a book that gave me a lot to think about - even when I wasn’t reading it!

Extremely brave account of weight and trauma
Roxane Gay's deeply moving, hard-hitting biographical account of rape and its consequences is harrowing and triggering. The profound impact it had on her life goes to explain all her decision making as a result. Not to explain away her feelings of her weight, but it shows a small tenet of how trauma can have such devastating results. It can be a little repetitive from a literary perspective but it's well worth all the kudos.

I rewatched this film the other night, and I honestly had forgotten how funny this was. It's a great horror comedy, and it still makes me laugh. It's definitely my favorite zombie movie. Edgar Wright's direction completely works, and it's an impressive first movie. I also love Simon Pegg in this movie, but I think I love him in every film.
I think I send gifs from this movie all of the time to my friends to express my feelings.

another fantastic find, this is the first book in the trilogy. i have read alot of books but this one was different. this book sucked me in really quickly. it is told in the two characters point on views, which i love as you get to understand all the emotions and feelings of both characters. i couldnt put it down and didnt want it to end, so glad i have the next book ready.

Very dull
It's in such a rush to get to the point where it can be a tragic love story, with our two young lovers on the run, that the movie completely forgets about plausibility and doesn't give us any time to believe in any of the feelings and emotions being experienced. I haven't read the book that this awful movie is based on but I can imagine that it goes into much needed detail a lot more than this does.

I have mixed feelings on this one, I did enjoy it but I felt that the journey could have been made shorter. This book should have been around the 300 page mark, not the 500 as I felt that the additions to the journey and the details provided were mostly not needed. That being said I loved the characters and would love to follow them into the sequel, but I am dubious due to excess info that was put into the first book.
