Goddess in the Stacks (553 KP) rated The Giver in Books
Sep 7, 2017
A strange book.
So, I know The Giver has been out for a long time, and I know they made a movie, but somehow I’d never read or watched it. But on the recommendation of a friend, I finally have. What a strange little book! It definitely belongs in the same realm as Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, 1984, and The Handmaid’s Tale – which are among my favorite books – but the ending was tremendously unsatisfying. It’s the first book in a quartet, though, so I’m hoping the other three, which I have requested from the library, will tie up the loose ends. It definitely feels like it’s only the first installment of a story.
The dystopian society in this book has effectively banished most feelings. But to get rid of hate and war and prejudice, they also had to banish the memories and feelings of individuality and difference. With everyone and everything the same, they’re mostly incapable of feeling true love or happiness. So they all live in peace – but it’s a complacent, uncaring peace. It’s not peace because of love, it’s peace because of the absence of passionate feelings. Whether this is good or not, well, that’s up to the reader to decide for themselves. The actions of the main character, who aims to disrupt that peace, could be seen as good or bad.
I’m not actually entirely sure how I feel about this book. After reading the next three – Gathering Blue (2000), Messenger (2004), and Son (2012), I'm still at a bit of a loss. These were just...odd.

May 7, 2019
wow, what a fab read, I was totally hooked from the first page and couldn't put it down till id finished it. this is the first book by this author that I've read and I defiantly weren't disappointed. the story is fantastic, with twists and turns which will keep you guessing. the author has a fantastic way of writing, that she is able to not only capture the characters feelings but the environment making everything so real

starwarsluvr (236 KP) rated Gideon: March Shifter (Mystic Zodiac, #3) in Books
Jan 30, 2018
I haven't read the others in this series and was very amazed at how easy this was to follow. I love the characters and how everything goes down. The feelings and the obstacles that happened. This author is amazing and made me want to finish reading as soon as possible. I am very glad the author sent this to me for an honest opinion and my opinion is I will be letting my friends know about this and that they need to read it.

Gisell Middleton (189 KP) rated Sister of Mine in Books
Jul 18, 2018
This novel, which has fire as a central theme, is a slow burn (pun very much intended). At times it seemed to be infused with drudgery and despair, not only due to the depressing topics of domestic abuse and betrayal, but also because of the main characters’ inability to really understand their feelings and emotions. That being said, the climax does not disappoint as it brings about truths and twists long taken for granted since the first few pages.

Ivana A. | Diary of Difference (1171 KP) rated Scorpion by Drake in Music

I am just not a fan of Drake
I won the Scorpion album from a Smashbomb Giveaway.
I am not a fan of Drake, and I didn't play all the songs. I have heard In My Feelings way too much, and it became overrated to me. I like the Keke Challenge though, because I get to see people make fools out of themselves while their car goes away lol ;D
I liked the old Drake, but the few songs I heard from this album weren't for me.
