didn't quite work for me
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

Oren goes to thank his mum's neighbour for helping her when she fell, and he falls, HARD! Pete is married, though, right?

So, three things let this book down, for ME.

Strike one
Single person point of view. Only Oren has a say.

Strike two
First person, present tense. Just doesn't work for me.

Strike three
This was a very VERY short book, took me less than 30 minutes to read it. I have no idea why this lets it down, but you know me and my book feelings and this is what I feel!

BUT

Positive one
When Oren and Pete are on the same page for the first time, they are both straight into whatever *this* is between them.

Positive two
Loved Pete's ex-wife's reaction to finding Pete and Oren getting a little touchy feely.

Positive three
Loved the reaction of Pete's kids to their Extra-Daddy.

It is well written, and I saw no spelling or editing errors to spoil my reading. It was a *nice* read. (And you know how I feel about using that word!)

3 good solid stars

HILDUR is a multi-faceted singer-songwriter from Iceland. Not too long ago, she released a groovy electro-pop tune, entitled, “Work”.

“We’re been stick so long in this same old situation tryna have this obviously close affiliation. I don’t know no wasted stuff…Baby, let’s do all the things from our imagination.” – lyrics

‘Work’ tells an interesting tale of a young woman who wants to make the relationship which she shares with her significant-other work.

Apparently, she believes there’s no logic in them taking vacations. Therefore, if he picks the right location, she’ll be there ready to put in work.
‘Work’ contains a relatable storyline, ear-welcoming vocals, and groovy instrumentation scented with electro-pop and modern dance ingredients.

“‘Work’ is a fun and quirky song about new love and strong feelings and then putting in some work to make it last. ‘Intuition’ deals with the themes of following your intuition and believing in your gut feeling. Love relies heavily on that gut feeling. Also, when you meet someone you really click with you are willing to do everything and anything to make the relationship work.” – HILDUR

‘Work is the final single from HILDUR’s sophomore EP, entitled, “Intuition”.

The last 100 pages saved this book from a 3 star! Laurel is given an assignment in school which is to write a letter to someone who is dead. She chooses Kurt Cobain, who she feels as a lot in common with her sister May who died young just like she did. Soon she begins writing to lots of other famous people who have died too, through her letters to get to know about her life and her thoughts and feelings. I found Laurel to be very dislikeable at the start, she lives in her sisters shadow but it so caught up in trying to be her she becomes completely wrapped up in it. After finishing this book I can understand why she was portrayed this way to begin with, as the story developed I gained more of an understanding into who she is away from her sister. I loved her relationship with Sky and I love the friendships she also gained (I wasn't too sure of them at first) I felt at times it dragged but the last 100 pages really did it for me and I ended up loving how it all came together. Its definitely worth a read stick with it you won't be disappointed.

So many twists and turns (0 more)
The title describes the book
I loved this book. It is one of the best crime books I have read. The title was relevant as this book had so many twist and turns. The last one was definitely the best and I did not see it coming.
I was gripped to this book and really could not put this down. I had to see what happened next. Some of the things I guessed but this was at the end. I couldn't of guessed the twists through the beginning and middle part of the book.
The whole book went together so well. I was surprised at how many people had been killed by the 'killer'.
I felt so many different emotions when reading this book - shock, surprise, fearful, gripped.
My feelings towards some of the characters changed throughout the book which is usual in crime books.
I couldn't find fault with the story or writing on the book.
This isn't like any book I have read before which is always good.
The blurb was so short it gave nothing away but this matched the book 100%.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a crime book.
