Paul (106 KP) rated Dead to Me in TV
Jun 16, 2019
Class comedy drama
What could be a boring story regarding a womans life after her husbands death gets spun on its head. Christina Applegate and the rest of the cast put their acting capabilities to the full with this biting story about grieving, loss and redemption.
The twists come thick and fast without being contrived. Give it ago it feels fresh for such a well treaded subject.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Saw: The Final Chapter (2010) in Movies

A poor, hopefully final, film in the Saw series. The story wasn't as interesting as the previous ones, the effects actually don't look as good in this film and even the traps are not as well thought out as the other films. I saw it on DVD in 2D but fail to see how many scenes would have been better in 3D? I prefer the 6th one as the final film, this feels like a rushed cash in!

Charles Burbridge (13 KP) rated Midnight Sun (2018) in Movies
Mar 29, 2018
Moviepass strikes again, taking me to a film I'd never, ever pay to see in a theater.
Surprisingly, Midnight Sun was competent. It is a reasonable movie aimed square at teen girls, and guess what? Since my daughters were once teen girls, I think that I can say that this would have hit them square in the feels.
Was the movie for me? No. Did I actively hate it? No. Will the target audience rave about it? Likely.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2340 KP) rated The Reformed (Burn Notice, #4) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Michael tries to help a reformed gang leader turned priest escape his past when his former gang tries to use him to launder money and hide other activities. The characters are pitch perfect and the plot feels like something from the show itself. A great read whether you are a fan of the show or not.

Sarah Chapman (7 KP) rated Strangers: Prey at Night (2018) in Movies
Mar 10, 2018
At many points this movie feels like a Lifetime original movie. The characters consistently make decisions that are beyond stupid, stupidity that can't be reasoned away by the "in-the-moment" fear of the situation. It's like they have no sense of self preservation. They run around screaming out for others when there are bad guys actively looking for them, and don't shoot the person that is trying to kill them when they have them at gunpoint.

The Marinated Meeple (1853 KP) rated The Game of Life in Tabletop Games
Oct 5, 2018
A great idea poorly executed...
spin the spinner and move your piece, find out how your life is turning out... (oversimplified yes) but this is how this game feels. Check out Pursuit of Happiness if you are interested in this theme and want to actually play a game about living a life other than the one you are currently playing.

Andrew Koltuniuk (767 KP) rated A Ghost Story (2017) in Movies

A complicated look at grief and change
This movie... Is hard to talk about. Not because it is poorly done, but because you feel so conflicted after you watch it. I was pretty disinterested in the beginning of this film, but once I reached the end of the film, I cried. The film feels a little disjointed and slow, but if you can get into it, it is a beautiful exploration of grief, love and change.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Mean Creek (2004) in Movies

A very good film that feels similar in many ways to "Stand by me". Great acting from the young cast as a group of kids plan to get revenge on a bully. Though their attitudes change over the day, will they go through with it and with what repercussions?
The film handles the whole bully situaition well and will remind a lot of people how tough life can be as a young kid growing up and going through school.

An interesting take on addiction
This book tells the story of Nikkis decline into addiction and his struggles to get out of it. Some of the story Motely cruel fans will already know but in this book Nikki goes into the feelings and emotions behind the situation. The book is a bit dull in places.
