Ambitious
Well I guess everyone who loved Get Out is hoping for the best with this 2nd film by Jordan Peele. You kinda expect this to be quite odd and in that respect it is. The problem I found is it feels like a comedy horror at times, often unintentionally. The cinema were laughing at parts I think were supposed to be freaky. To top it off the final revelation was predictable for me. So a bold effort, entertaining film but it might leave you feeling indifferent.
Auburn (57 KP) rated Match Me If You Can in Books
Apr 10, 2019
What happens when you only see the outside of a person. When that outside is enough to convince you that you love them. This feels like what a normal person does when they romanticize a fictional character as perfect for them.
She finds out pretty fast that there is no spark and she screwed up more than her potential for love. Now she has to fix her naive mistakes and get all the right people together.
I would equate it to a Midsummer's Night Dream but Puck didn't screw up, she did.

Red Otter (340 KP) rated Terraforming Mars: Venus Next in Tabletop Games
Jun 6, 2019
Venus Next adds Venus to the list of areas that can be terraformed, through either cards or a standard project. However, it is not required to in order to end the game. It sits as an optional board that takes up space. This is my least favourite of the expansion as it doesn't feel part of the game as closely as it should. It simply feels extra, another source of points. It adds floaters which can be a cool way of doing resources but as a expansion that improves the game? I disagree with that
Myst (0 KP) rated When in Rome in Books

Hmmm, not sure how to explain this one. Feels a bit hit or miss in the storytelling as parts of the story bored me. The story just dragged on and on. With the whole door of one night conquests and then all of a sudden with the mom getting sick. This title became one of my few did not finish at some points, really hard to read as I found the main mc really winy. The only good part was what happened at the end.

What Love Is
This book beautifully illustrates in a way that is accessible to all readers what love really is. There are depictions of love as new parents, love as a father dancing with their child on top of a trailer home, love in the moments of a fight between parents. I bought this book for my son, his daycare, and my classroom. If you want a way to talk about how much love there is in a world that feels so destroyed right now, this is the book.
Awix (3310 KP) rated The Lost Boys (1987) in Movies
Mar 19, 2018
Very very 80s vampire comedy-horror; one of those films which feels like a music video with the actual song edited out. Family relocates to sleepy coastal town, discovers that dark forces are at work.
Not really what you'd actually call scary, but attractive to look at and genuinely funny in places. Cleverer than you expect; there's a nicely subtle gag about the teenage characters thinking the world revolves about them, when it's really the adults who are in charge and know what's going down. Good soundtrack, too. Entertaining stuff.

Cynthia Armistead (17 KP) rated Theft of Swords (The Riyria Revelations, #1-2) in Books
Mar 1, 2018
While it dragged a little in some places, overall this was a wonderful book. Royce and Hadrian bring back fond memories of characters from past RPGs. That isn't to say that Theft of Swords feels like one of those dreadful "I wrote down what happened in my D&D campaign and called it a novel" things, because that certainly is not the case! It's more that I felt as if I knew these characters, that I was there with them, and I seldom get that from any author.
Connie (244 KP) rated The Sims™ Mobile in Apps
Jun 17, 2018 (Updated Jun 17, 2018)
Just okay.
I have been playing the Sims forever, so when a mobile app came out I was excited. But simply put, I wasn't impressed at all by this addition.
There's a level cap, and other than adding new limited time quests, this game seems stuck in place. I really wanted to love this, but I just couldn't. I get that it's a mobile app and thus limited, but it feels poorly executed at the moment. Hopefully there will be updates that make it better in the future. Until then, I have to pass.

I think this had potential with a good location for a horror, but overall it's no where near what it could have been. If this was a short story it might have been better but even at 85mins it feels way too long. The majority of the film features the girl running and screaming through tunnels in the darkness.....followed by more running through dark tunnels! The twist ending did start to become a bit obvious, well the first part anyway, and it has been done much better in many other horrors.

Good story about fate
A decent little romantic film, although labeled a Rom-com most of the time it feels more of a drama with a lot of light hearted moments than truly laugh out loud scenes. It did remind me of Serendipity quite a bit, would have to admit that is by far the better film. One of the best of the genre in my opinion.
Still this has a good cast and it was an enjoyable to watch, without being the typical hollywood Rom-com most of the time. Definitely worth checking out.
