Isaiah Douglas (2 KP) rated Hunt Showdown in Video Games

This game is filled with a lot of action, whether it be avoiding hordes of monsters, or sneaking up on players and killing them. This game feels very real and has a natural vibe to it. The game just got released to the public, but I am sure it will be one (1 more)
The game just got released to the public, but I am sure it will be one of the most played games of 2018.
Phenomenal New Game
I would highly recommend this game to suspense and action lovers.
Jcadden76 (64 KP) rated Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) in Movies

We lose a good character but the plot rockets forward.
Order of the Phoenix is almost the Empire Strikes Back of the Harry Potter series. You don't end with a whole lot of good feels at the end of this movie. The lot does really take off and you stay on the edge of your seat for the better part of the film.
This might have the best pacing of the entire series. The ups and downs the good vibes and the bad fall at just the right time. To me this is the movie that had to be made because it is the "book" but there is not a whole lot of upside in this one - except for some tremendous acting all the way around.

My son really enjoyed it and asked me to read it as well., I was not as impressed as he was. Feels like a mix of Hunger Games and Divergent, with a few other dystopian ideas tossed into a blender and mashed up to create a new world. It wasn't horrible, but not what I would consider a great book. I will give it points that the end did leave you wanting to know what happens next, so made me want to move on to the next in the series. I will give it brownie points for capturing my son's attention. He is very picky about books, and mainly chooses non-fiction, so any fiction book that captures him deserves some credit.
Awix (3310 KP) rated Leave No Trace (2018) in Movies

Top-class drama from the people who brought you a bunch of other good films without getting famous for it. A troubled veteran lives with his daughter in a national park; he has a pathological need for privacy and independence; she loves her dad and so goes along with this, at least until the film starts.
Excellent performances, wonderfully clear and understated storytelling, and sense of humanity and generosity define what is by any measure an extremely fine film. It's about growing up and finding your own way in the world, but also about family and responsibility and lots of other things - yet it never feels heavy or preachy. Almost certain to prove one of the best of the year.

Kevin Wilson (179 KP) rated Truth or Dare (2018) in Movies

Full of cliches (2 more)
Not scary or gory
Predicatable
Disappointing and full of cliches
This is a mediocre movie. It had an interesting concept but fell short and feels a lot like other movies out there.
It was not scary or gory and the truth & dares could have been a lot more ambitious.
I like a couple of the actors but no character felt likable. The movie was predictable and felt slow paced at times.
The CGI isn't too great when truth or dare is being asked. At least I think it's CGI bulecause it just looks too weird.
Ok the plus side I didn't fall asleep so I wouldn't say it's the most horrible movie. I also went into this with low expectations.

Ross (3284 KP) rated Marvel's Iron Fist - Season 1 in TV
Aug 7, 2018
This series is by far the weakest of the first batch of Defenders components on Netflix, and I really didn't like Jessica Jones. It really feels like a poorly executed version of DC's Arrow - the characters and storylines are so very similar (rich boy goes missing, comes back with new talents, friends' father is an evil mastermind, corruption). There was nowhere near enough action for what should have been a very heavily kung-fu based series. The series was padded out to make the necessary 13 episodes, and there was a lot of nothing in between. Good to have some of the Iron Fist background but this was badly carried out (compared to the excellent equivalent in Luke Cage!).
Glad I got through it at last.

Great Idea, Bad Execution
Impact Winter has all the things I love in a good survival management game, but feels more like a product in testing rather than a complete game. There are so many glitches from not being able to leave out of tents set up in the perma-winter environment to an end game bug that prevents getting a rating for that play through. Super frustrating. There's also an issue of having too much inventory that causes a 10-second delay between choosing an item and placing it. A major time waster. With all the bad, it is a pretty fun game. There's lots to explore and new things to find in each go.
Dean (6926 KP) rated The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018) in Movies
Nov 26, 2018 (Updated Nov 26, 2018)
Hmm
I was looking forward to this after having watched and enjoyed the original Swedish Girl with the Dragon tattoo series of films. Even the US remake of the original was very good because the story was just very interesting.
This feels very different. From the Bond like opening credits and plot about a programme that can hack any nuclear missile world wide. It's very broad in scope... Without actually having a big plot feel to it. It's not a bad film, it's an ok Thriller. After the high standards set by the other films though this is a step down. Check out the the Swedish ones if you haven't seen them.

Lenard (726 KP) rated John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019) in Movies
Jun 19, 2019
John Wick is an existential comedy about a man lost in a battle between the woman he loves and the work he can't leave behind. He transverses a desert landscape that signifies the loneliness he feels inside over abandoning his love. A mysterious stranger sings Roy Orbison while trapezist circle his head. Just kidding, John Wick gets a $14 millions bounty after an unauthorized murder. Every one is out to get him and his friends are given days to reprove their honor. The movie is nonstop action and acidic threats. Given how many time I have had to rethink the film, I realize while it had its small flaws, it is the best possible version of itself--hence the 10 bomb rating.
David McK (3425 KP) rated The Rise of Robin Hood (Outlaw Chronicles, #0.5) in Books
Jan 30, 2019
Short prequel to the first of Angus Donald's Outlaw series about Robin Hood.
Whereas the books proper are all presented as an ageing Alan-a -Dale remembering his time with Robin and were told in the first person, this is told in third person and is not 'book-ended' in such a manner. While there are a few other characters than the already-living-in-the-woods Robin and John, it also does not have such a wide range of characters as in the novels proper, and feels maybe a little bit rushed.
In short: an OK entry for anyone who hasn't read any of the novels proper, but I would still advise the reader to start with the first book rather than this novella.
