Beautiful film nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The director plays with various genres ranging from action, drama, noir and romance. The technical part is perfect and the rhythm helps a lot. It's funny how during the film we completely forget that the main character is not really a good guy, but a criminal without many scruples, and this is a very interesting asset of the film, as he intentionally manipulates the spectator's perception. The performances are great, but it's a picture movie, even when the lighting is dark. There are some clichés throughout the movie, but the pacing helps to soften that. I really liked it.

"I heard about them initially via the NME, and Melody Maker– all those great music newspapers that were there back in the day. My best friend was also into them at the same time and we just became strangely obsessed, very quickly. 
 When they first emerged, I was very active in the club scene; I was always going out every night and I just had this incredible connection with that record. That whole scene that came out of Manchester at that time – the Happy Mondays, the Stone Roses – it just blew my mind. It was a sort of brand new sound that really captured my imagination. 

 Every time I hear that record now, I just get flooded with feelings of pure joy and freedom. I became so, so obsessed with Ian Brown that it was bordering on the unhealthy. 

 They're an amazing band and I still have so much love for them. I was lucky enough to meet Mani and Ian over the years, either on television shows or at festivals. I met Mani at this amazing festival in Spain, in Bilbao: I was literally like a love-struck teenager, except I wasn't [laughs], I was an adult. I was so thrilled to meet him and to play on the same festival line-up. 

 It wasn't until much, much later that somebody told me The Stone Roses had actually opened for my very first band – Goodbye Mr Mackenzie – but I had been completely unaware. It felt like great justice that with the success of Garbage that I finally got to be on the same stage and be aware of it at the same time: it felt like an amazing achievement. 

 In some weird turn of events, me and Ian got stuck together backstage in this mad situation – I think it was in Serbia, of all places, during a thunderstorm. The festival that we were all playing had to get postponed until the storm passed. We were all backstage getting drunk together and I could just not believe that that actually happened: I still can't. It just shows you that dreams can come true, so to speak [laughs]."

This is becoming one of my favourite witch series I love the characters and stories. These books are so easy to fall into and read. Ronin makes me laugh so much he is definitely one of my favs! These books would definitely lift any reading slump esteem if you like a something a little quirky. It’s still the only Gorilla shifter I’ve ever come across too!

Today is the Festival of Ceridwen, and there's no better day to sit with one of the most complex and compelling figures in all of Welsh mythology.

Ceridwen is a goddess of transformation, the keeper of the cauldron of Awen, and the divine inspiration that flows through poets and storytellers. She brewed her cauldron for a year and a day, intending the gift of Awen for her son, and when three drops fell instead onto the tongue of Gwion Bach, the boy who'd been set to stir it, she pursued him through a cascade of transformations that ended with her consuming him and, eventually, giving birth to him again as Taliesin, the greatest of the Welsh bards.

What I find most remarkable about Ceridwen is that she resists easy categorisation. She's been called a witch, a goddess, a crone, and a mother. She's all of those things and none of them entirely. She acts from grief, ambition, and something that looks like fury. She creates, accidentally and then deliberately, the very thing she was trying to keep for someone else. The Awen escapes her and becomes something larger than she intended, which is perhaps the most honest thing mythology has ever said about inspiration.

On her festival day, it feels right to acknowledge what she represents for anyone who makes things. The cauldron doesn't always give what we expect. Sometimes it gives what the work needs instead. 🌿
