Great piece of fiction, dipping into fantasy and the real world. Interestingly, this book was also the inspiration for the song "Jack Names the Planets" by Ash.

Very interesting combination of fact and fiction in this book. I started to remember names from The Crucible and it made the story all the more real.

Good range of facts at an appropriate level for most KS1 children. It was very much enjoyed by my class and helped drive our non-fiction writing.

"She was the best writer of magical children’s fiction of our generation. I don’t know if this is the best of her novels, but it’s my favourite."
