Suswatibasu (1702 KP) rated Anatomy of a Scandal in Books
Mar 11, 2018
A well-timed book about abuse of power
An Anatomy of a Scandal is a book about privilege and power, a timely novel given the recent spate of high profile sexual harassment cases. In this instance, James is a privileged, charismatic, successful member of Parliment and is accused of raping his mistress in a lift on the grounds of Westminster, while his doting wife Sophie, is torn between believing him and staying with him.
A trial then ensues, in which the accuser, Olivia is forced to face her worst nightmares, all the while fighting against a system in which he is king. Her lawyer Kate on the other hand, knows he is guilty, and we watch her back story unfold.
The book is told from alternating viewpoints with alternating timelines. As more of the past is revealed it is even more clear, that James is hiding more than expected.
An Anatomy of A Scandal exposes sexual assault for being more than just a moment in isolation. It is a culmination of behaviours and attitudes leading up to that moment and involves more than just the victim and the assaulter. An interesting read, and worth a trigger warning.

Bong Mines Entertainment (15 KP) rated Talk Talk - Single by Cannons in Music
Jun 17, 2019
Cannons is an electro-pop band from Los Angeles, California. Not too long ago, they released a music video for their “Talk Talk” single.
“You say it felt so nice. That’s when I am near. I’m fighting voices in my mind, voices telling lies about it. ‘Cause it feels so right with your arms around me.” – lyrics
‘Talk Talk’ will be featured on Cannons’ upcoming album, entitled, “Shadows”, available later this summer.
The likable tune contains a relatable storyline, dreamy vocals, and groovy instrumentation seasoned with a chill ‘70s vibe. Also, the song possesses indie-alternative and electro-pop elements.
Cannons formed in 2013 when childhood friends Ryan Clapham and Paul Davis met Michelle Joy.
The two grew up on the same street in Los Angeles and had been trying to start a band for years. But nothing had quite clicked until their paths crossed hers.
Michelle’s effortless vocals melded perfectly with Ryan’s old school, Memphis-style R&B chord progressions and Paul’s densely layered productions.
Since then, their music has been licensed in HBO’s first season of Ballers, and used to soundtrack the rollout for Kendall & Kylie Jenner’s Topshop line.

Deborah (162 KP) rated The Elusive Bride (Black Cobra Quartet #2) in Books
Dec 21, 2018
The Elusive Bride is the second in Laurens' The Black Cobra Quartet.. I've been looking forward to sinking my teeth into these as Laurens always delivers, plus this series had the added temptation of seeing Bastion club members and Cynsters again - one wonders how the pages can contain so much testosterone and not explode! ;-)
This had all the romance you would expect from a Laurens book, plus enough swashbuckling adventure for Boys Own! Our hero, Gareth must make his way from India back to England by a prescribed route to deliver the scroll he carries to Wolvestone - the one powerful enough to bring down the Black Cobra. Gareth, along with Miss Emily Ensworth, who is also being pursued by the Black Cobra Cult, make their way by land and sea, fighting off cultists, and at one point a rather predatory female!
As the four couriers all leave India as around the same time and arrive back in England at around the same time too the timelines in each book do intersect, so sometimes an event in a previous book hasn't yet happened - you need to get your beain around that one!

Jake (52 KP) rated Morning Star in Books
Jul 25, 2019
Woah. Sheer intensity in written form.
Let me preface why I gave this only 4 stars instead of 5.
The series overall was riddled with crude humor and repulsive language, the depth and level of which blew past my personal tolerance levels. Also, human life was never so cheap: from the immensely violent bloody beheadings to the mass deaths and gory fight scenes, grisly death could be found in probably every other chapter. In short, I could not recommend this book to my mother.
That being said, the story and saga of Darrow pulled at my heart like no book I've ever read. The themes of death, destruction, and despair that surrounded Darrow crushed me. It was only the pure dream of the "good guys" fighting for a better world that made it possible to read through the extreme agony. The themes of love, betrayal, friendship, and trust left me emotionally drained sometimes. These elements made it so that I literally couldn't put the book down.
It is an epic journey, it is a moving (although harsh) masterpiece, and I will never forget this book or series.

Scott Adkins
The Scott Adkins Movie we Have all been Waiting for!!!
Scott Adkins just had to go and step it up a notch with this Very Brutal, Very British, Hugely Funny and Fairly Orginal brit crime drama. Boasting a superb leading man performance from Adkins and a delightful supporting cast of top Brit talent.
All honesty I dont know if I was just in the mood for this type of flick when I watched it but it felt super fresh and it was a cast I know and love putting in stellar performances, the script is really tight and the way in which the movie flowed with flashbacks revealing Cains time inside was effortless. The fight cherography was as impressive as you might expect from seasoned pros like director Jesse V Johnson (long serving Stunt Performer) and Adkins. They never fell into the trap of the big hard hits being over the top everything was just on the money. Its all good having a brutal graphic fight scene but if it doesnt serve the plot or the charaters your wasting your time.

Lindsay (1727 KP) rated The Bleikovat Event in Books
Jan 25, 2020
This story is well written. You get the grip of the story soon as it started. It about a battle between two clans. It is worth reading. I will warn you that it is not suitable for anyone under 18+. It got some graphic scenes. It rated PG13 by the book tour company but I would have at least stated it for 14 years and up. Maybe even 18 and up. That is me. Parents have the right to choose and decide if it worth having their child or children reading this book and their maturity.
There seems to be a war that on though out the book. It a battle between Beakovats and Feldovats. If you read on you will find that they refer the Feldovats as Feldon. This where most of the fighting goes on which is along the Feldon River. Will it happen to Feldovats? Will, they survive? Bleikovats are invading lands.
The Feldovats end up in Eedov City facing their enemy. What happens when they escape on the Maalon freighters and heading a new life? Some Bleikovats are so bent on destroying all of the Fe

Mar 10, 2020 (Updated Mar 10, 2020)
Sink or swim?
Considering my Y childhood holidays spent by the water, I've never been more anxious at the sight of rising water levels. A fully cooperative experience, all players, new and experienced, took part in an adventure fit for all. Fighting to get to the chopper we found ourselves facing an ever changing table top with tiles sinking faster than we were able to get to them. As you move around the board collecting treasures, you face difficult challenges of whether to move yourself or to use your special abilities to better position your comrades. A gem of a game, the variety of characters provide a strong amount of replay ability, ideal for a game that provides an air of impending doom telling you that all you can do now is it to start planning for the next attempt.
Whether you play it for the theme of an intrepid explorer searching an unknown island, or you are looking for an excellent family friendly cooperative experience (allowed by the ability to simply and effectively vary difficulty levels) this is a game for boardgamers of all shapes and sizes.

Ronnie (304 KP) rated Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian: Bk. 5 in Books
Apr 23, 2020
The great prophecy tells that the fate of the world will rest in Percy Jackson’s hands when he turns sixteen. In the summer leading up to his sixteenth birthday Kronos’s evil army of monsters rampages through New York, with only Percy and his demigod friends to try and defeat them. What will become of the great prophecy, in the final instalment of the Percy Jackson series.
I loved this book! I put off reading it for ages because I struggled to get through the battle of the labyrinth, but once I picked up the last Olympian, I couldn’t put it down. I loved all the action, the fighting between Percy and Kronos. It was amazing getting to see more of everyone’s past, especially Luke and Annabeth’s. Seeing the demigods speak to their godly parents was so new and a wonderful thing to see. I have to say that my favourite part of the book was the humour. Even in the middle of an epic battle with the Titan lord someone would find something funny to say or Percy would come up with a comedic anecdote. I can’t wait to start reading the Heroes of Olympus series!
