Beautiful film nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The director plays with various genres ranging from action, drama, noir and romance. The technical part is perfect and the rhythm helps a lot. It's funny how during the film we completely forget that the main character is not really a good guy, but a criminal without many scruples, and this is a very interesting asset of the film, as he intentionally manipulates the spectator's perception. The performances are great, but it's a picture movie, even when the lighting is dark. There are some clichés throughout the movie, but the pacing helps to soften that. I really liked it.

Poor executed
The twist was telegraphed from only opening.
Mediocre Film Noir almost saved by a bizzare yet intriguing left turn twist half way through.
With more effort could have been a classic. Instead it squandered a fantastic cast and an intriguing twist with poor script and mediocre direction.

Hooked from the beginning
I thoroughly enjoyed this series. Although set in a future, one can see the headline issues of today wrapped up in a complicated film-noir private detective archetype. Something about hard-boiled crime and mystery supported by futuristic tech and commentary on the social elite really pulls me in.

Norton's Materpiece
Motherless Brooklyn is what cinema was made for. Written, directed and starring Norton, this is a beautiful ode to Film Noir and an attack on the elite with many parrelels to Trump.
Everything from the cinematography to the soundtrack is exceptional. How was this not even mentioned at the Oscars?
