Lyndsey Gollogly (2893 KP) rated A Shade of Blood (A Shade of Vampire #2) in Books
Aug 25, 2020
Took me a bit longer to get into the second one as the first didn’t jump in to my memories as fast as the other books I read do! The first book was a bit underwhelming and a bit rushed. This one was so much better I love that Derek still has his dark side not like most vampires written. I had a feeling I knew who Sofia’s dad was but I didn’t see it coming about her mum! Certainly sets it up for an interesting 3rd book.

Gary Born is a master at creating a vibrant and descriptive story. He has a way of transporting you through time that gets you lost, in a good way!
Sara West is our heroine, I love her. She is equal parts intelligent, brave and capable.
Sara is the first person we meet and it's apparent straight away that she is a strong independent woman.
I'm not going to head into too much detail as you seriously need to climb aboard for this cracking story and discover the twists for yourself.
I'd recommend savouring The File snuggled up on the sofa with snacks (you know this is my favourite thing by now). It would also be a great choice for a book club or just a casual thing with friends!
David McK (3764 KP) rated Soul Music (Discworld, #16; Death, #3) in Books
Jul 1, 2024
Only he could take The Grim Reaper, and turn him into not-so-much a figure of fun, but use him to examine life and mortality and the nature of human existence.
I think there's five such books in which he takes a starring role in the entire Discworld series - those would be (in order) 'Mort', 'Reaper Man', this one, 'Hogfather' and 'Thief of Time'], with all but the first featuring the Death of Rats ("SQUEEK"), and with the latter three also featuring his grand-daughter Susan.
That, thus, makes this the first novel to do so, with plenty of puns and jokes around the music industry here as a new force comes into being on the Discworld: that of "Music with Rocks In".
For my money, this is top-tier Pratchett.

Molly J (Cover To Cover Cafe) (106 KP) rated Trusting Grace (Virtues and Vices of the Old West #3) in Books
Feb 27, 2019
Grace, Robert and the children were all wonderful characters. They came to life instantly, pulling me in, capturing my heart. The interaction between Grace and Robert and Grace and the children left me smiling. The sparks that fly between Grace and Robert are endearing and I loved watching Robert come to terms with the way he feels about Grace.
This is a story of anger, love, letting go and moving on. A story of learning to trust again. God works His way into the story line, leaving the reader with messages of hope and faith in the end.
If you love a story that will not only warm your heart, but is filled with captivating characters, history, and hope, then look no further than this beautifully woven novel. This is worth 4 star praises and recommendations to all Christian fiction lovers. Ms. Brendan will leave you wanting more! I can't wait to go back and read the first two books in this lovely series.
Tell me, would you give love another shot and trust again, after being hurt? Leave a comment below for your chance to win a copy of one of Maggie Brendan's Virtues And Vices Of the Old West novels!
