"I guess because there was some socially conscious stuff going on in that movie. To see somebody stand up to the injustice the way he did was so good. I found the movie to be so honest. That movie was independent when movies were truly independent. That was not a studio movie by any means. I just dug the whole premise of it."

"This is a book that brought me to my knees in gratitude. So much ancient wisdom that I had assumed lost is to be found here. For those of us of African descent—and who among us is not?—it will generate a gentle healing in just those areas of community, ritual and memory where we’ve felt so orphaned and bereft."

"This book is a practical manual, following esoteric Tibetan practices, to attain lucidity in dream and even dreamless sleep. I followed the instructions for a time, and found they worked. My dreams opened up and I started to gain lucidity. If you follow these techniques out to their furthest extreme, you will realize the dreamlike nature of reality and attain enlightenment."

"As popular as this novel is among the Arthurian Legend fanatics and 13-year-old boys, I have always found it and its author very untrendy to love. Then Helen McDonald’s stunning H is For Hawk came along last year and blew up my spot. Still, I’m happy to share the love — and to know much more about T.H. White now."

"I had two small children. They were playing in the backyard sandbox. It was summer. Bath time came and went, suppertime came and went. But I could not put down this book. It was unlike anything I’d ever read. When my then husband came home and found me reading and the children still playing outside, he was not happy. But I was."

I enjoyed this but very similar to the Guest List, perhaps not quite as intricate. I found it quite frustrating that we got to meet so many characters but very few of them were actually involved with the final plot. Also the decoy was FAR too obvious.

A story of one man's obsession with a woman who wanted something else. Unfortunately, I found this book to be a touch too sterile for my taste, lacking in humour and devoid of the historical connections I expect to find in period fiction. I'm sorry for the 2 star rating. Unfortunately, reading from Chris' POV was pretty boring. I like that I was able to get a glimpse into how he felt and the way his feelings for Lauren slowly turned into something more, but I felt like I was trudging through the story. There were many times when I found myself skimming through certain scenes.

I got to chapter eight, 34% in and just had no inclination to read anymore. It wasn't grabbing my attention like it had at the beginning and I found myself just skipping through bits, trying to find a bit to keep me interested and to make me want to continue but it never came. Therefore it's going down as a DNF, I'm afraid.
