Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2346 KP) rated The Long Quiche Goodbye (A Cheese Shop Mystery, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
The grand reopening of Fromagerie Bessette, a gourmet cheese shop in a small Ohio town, is going well until Charlotte's grandmother is found kneeling over the corpse of a man she was just scene arguing with. The book started out a little slowly, but I quickly got into the characters and story.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2346 KP) rated Homicide in Hardcover (Bibliophile Mystery #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
When Brooklyn Wainwright is found kneeling over the dead body of her former mentor, she immediately becomes a suspect. But Brooklyn thinks it may have to do with the cursed Faust he was restoring. Can she prove her innocence? The plot had lots of events but didn't move forward quickly. I loved the characters, however.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2346 KP) rated Murder in Grub Street (Sir John Fielding, #2) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Sir John Fielding investigates when a family of printers are brutally murdered in 1760's London. This is the second in the series. I loved the characters as much as in the first, but I found the plot way too slow and predictable, with a second plot taking up way too much time.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2346 KP) rated Sonnet of the Sphinx (Poetic Death Mystery, #3) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Peter has to produce an item he doesn't know where is or get dragged back to Turkey. Meanwhile, Grace thinks she's found a lead on a previously unknown Percy Shelley sonnet. This is a bit slower than the previous two stories in the series, but it's still a fun romp with great characters.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2346 KP) rated Stuart Little in Books
Mar 9, 2018
This kid's book tells about the adventures of a mouse born to a human family. I remember loving it as a kid, but I didn't really enjoy it this time around. I found Stuart a rather immature character. The story is finally beginning to go somewhere when the book stops.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2346 KP) rated Cold Water Corpse (Luanne Fogarty Mysteries, #3) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
A skeleton that Luanne found two years ago becomes part of a current case as Luanne and the sheriff's department start looking for a serial killer that preys on women. Not a serial killer book but a good procedural mystery with characters I enjoy and writing so vivid it puts you there.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2346 KP) rated Stay At Home Dead (Stay At Home Dad Mystery #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Deuce Winters finds himself a suspect in the death of his high school rival after the man's body is found in his minivan. I enjoyed the characters, especially Deuce and his wife. But I felt the mystery was pretty thin and was annoyed by the author's willful ignoring any sense of time.

Mar 9, 2018
Madeline and her friends have just wrapped up a fundraiser for a private school. Then over the news comes the announcement that a dead woman was found in Madeline's bed. What was she doing there? Was Madeline the target? A very tightly plotted mystery with a great characters. One of the highlights of the series.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2346 KP) rated The Mystery of the Missing Heiress (Trixie Belden, #16) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
This kid's mystery finds Trixie Belden trying to help a young woman with amnesia find out who she really is. This is the first time I've reread a book in this favorite series in years. I loved spending time with the characters, but I have always found this plot a little weak.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2346 KP) rated Whispers of the Bayou in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Miranda is plunged into the secrets of her past when the caretaker of her grandparent's estate summons her to his deathbed. What secrets does he know? And what do her own memories mean? After an opening that grabbed me, I found parts of the story slow. Still, it was a ride well worth taking.
