MrsSkefton (3 KP) created a post in Middle School English Teachers

Jul 25, 2018
I guess most on here are in US? I’m a Teaching Assistant in Year 6 (UK). I cover teachers absence and admin time - often reading aloud to the class. Last year I worked with year 4 Monday pm and read Michael Morpurgo books including The Dancing Bear, Mr Nobody’s Eyes and Running Wild. I found them rather dry, hard to get engagement from the class. I am interested to hear recommendations for books for KS2 children.

the game that never lets you down
I couldn't wait for this to be released, as i have played them all, and fall out 4 never let me down once, from the changing your features until the end, the story captivated and drew me in. and just because i clocked the game, it didn't stop there, i found my self making new towns and doing a lot of side quests, definitely value for money as always.

unique storyline (1 more)
the inclusion of the pictures make the story feel authentic
I read a lot of books and this was one of the most unique plot lines I have ever come across.
The only reason I didn't give it a 10/10 is because the story did tend to get a bit confusing. I found myself being confused by the sheer amount of characters and having to slip back to remind myself who was who.

Elizabeth is missing is an easy read tackling a tough subject matter (dementia). I was gripped from the get go reading about Maud and attempting to unmuddle her mind. I found myself very attached to her story both past and present. Without giving away to much, a slightly disappointing ending, leaving me with more questions than I had to begin with. Overall I loved Emma Healeys storytelling and would read a few more of her books in the future

A cornucopia of topics to explore. (0 more)
Never be bored again
The lectures are delivered in a variety of formats and the transcript option is great if you want to take notes. I delved into TED looking for a specific subject, which I found easily, and then stayed to investigate some other topics I didn't even know I was interested in. I used to spend hours lost in encyclopedia as a child and this is a digital equvalent.

Great read
I personally really enjoyed this book, I was instantly hooked into the story line, solver a murder that happened years before...
I really liked the main character Kim stone, giving us great details of why this case meant so much because of her awful past, and how strong of a woman she is now, this story is very fast paced and keeps you interested constantly and guessing who done it and will they be found out.

I enjoyed this book more than the second as we got to know the characters a bit more. In particular ‘the golden’ as Lucy finds herself in trouble yet again and needing the help of her reluctant new friends.

I found the antics in this book pretty funny, especially Nikolai and his hat.

However I did still find the overall story to be very slow, with not much progression towards the big questions within the book.

A well made film about the actor Bob Crane from a hit 70's TV show. His soaring popularity effects him in many ways, becoming a sex addict and with technology progressing at the time making his own "home" videos and pictures. A little known film with a good cast, how much you like it depends on whether you knew of the actor or TV show. I didn't but still found it interesting as it's based on true events.

I love this app/site. Super easy to use and keep track of books I am currently reading, want to read, or have read. I especially love the scan feature. Prior to this I would just take pictures of interesting books I found at the store and catalogue them later but the scan feature cuts out the middle step. I also love that I can connect it directly to my book blog. Highly recommend for all book lovers

I read this book around 10 years ago so excuse my vagueness and lack of detail. While I love its premise, the characters in Uglies annoyed me and I found them hard to relate to. Granted I was around 12 years old and I think I may be due for a reread. I nonetheless am grateful to this book and its series because it was my gateway into YA Dystopian which is now one of my favorite sub-genres.
