Then it all came crashing down with 2006’s The Last Stand. All the fan favourites returned and the cast remains a highlight of this film, but everything else was such a mess. It didn’t help that Bryan Singer left the franchise and Fox brought in Brett Ratner, hardly renowned for his understated filming style. The Jean Grey side-plot was muddled, the special effects were poor and this was such a disservice to the fans who had stayed with the franchise for six years. To its credit however, the action was staged well and there were some very exciting set pieces that saved it from total oblivion. Unfortunately, Vinnie Jones as the Juggernaut was the final nail in this film’s coffin.

I really do not understand the criticism of this film. Yes it's long, has a slowish build up and no Megan Fox. The new girl appears out of no where? However once the action does start it, doesn't stop and it doesn't feel as long as it is. The SFX have gone up a notch again and the level of detail in the slo-mo shots mid action are amazing! All this with live performers in the mix too. This film is a pure blast, fun, entertaining and a work of technical excellence. It's better than the 2nd and on par with the first. If you want to be entertained and have your eyes dazzled see this. What the critics thought they were going to see I don't know?

Disclaimer: I received an e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book comes with a disclaimer of its own, and I have to say I definitely second, third, and fourth it to all future readers! All three stories are fantastic, and I'm already a fan of Ridley Fox, so I was happy to see him appear once again. "To The Last Bite" was certainly my favorite of the three (and I'm sure that doesn't bode well for my psyche), although I'm going to be quite wary of my remarks regarding a restaurant's cuisine ever again!!!

I wholeheartedly recommend this collection, especially to those who are already fans of Russell Brooks. Just make sure you're not planning to eat any time soon after reading...

Bon appetit!

5 stars =)

Love, Simon (2018)
Love, Simon (2018)
2018 | Comedy, Drama, Romance
A teen angst rom-com for the modern age. It follows formula plot points well trodden except that Simon (played charmingly by Nick Robinson) is gay. This was a big step forward for a major studio such as 20th Century Fox to give it the mainstream film treatment it deserves.
There's some great music and a likeable cast, and plenty of humour.
On first watch you're kept guessing on who the mystery love interest Blue is and end up just as relieved/pleased as Simon when the truth is revealed.
Jennifer Garner as Simon's Mum gives a perfect speech at one point that makes me well up each time I see it. It stands up well to repeat viewings. A recommendation for anyone to watch, not just for teens.
