The film, for whatever reason, refuses to take risks, changing the story of Freddie Mercury to be more linear and predictable, and for a film about Queen, a band that built itself on taking risks, that was the wrong decision.

The music
Was fantastically written and was a real tribute to Freddie Mercury
1 of my favourite movies of 2018
This was an incredible movie and have watched it twice in the space of 2 days and really want to watch it again.
I want to start by saying i do understand some of the facts are not true and was embellished for entertainment purposes. This does not stop the movie from inhabiting the spirit of who Freddie Mercury was. Rami Malek did a fantastic job and was perfect casting with Marc Martel providing impeccable vocals that could be mistaken for Freddies own.
Every single member of the cast was perfectly cast and i fell in love with each instantly.
I didnt even know until 2nd time watching it that Mike Myers was in it with a fun Wayne's World reference and that the actor who portrayed the bassist John Deacon was the kid ffom Jurassic Park.
I couldnt help but sing along to every song that came on. I was a fan before this movie but knowing more about Freddie Mercury and the stories behind each of the songs has made me more so. The struggles he experienced made this movie so emotional yet uplifting. You kind of know how its going to end if you know Freddie Mercury at all but i was still shocked by the journey he went on.
This is a movie i could watch over and over and i certainly plan to. This is my joint favourite movie of 2018 along with Searching.

I'm too young to have ever seen what the real freddie mercury was like other than hearing queens songs, so this is based purely on the movie.
The movie starts off slow but soon picks up after freddie joins the other members of queen, i quickly noticed how arrogant freddie is in the start of the movie. It's like he took over a band that wasn't his to begin with, he did get the band famous but he didn't seem very likeable. The whole movie was up and down with emotion, i wasn't sure how to feel. One moment I'd be feeling sorry for him and the next calling him names for his attitude towards people. The final few minutes was probably the best part of the movie, strangely emotional though. I do feel we need a sequel though as i felt the movie was incomplete and would be interesting to see the lead up to his death.

Listening to other people's reviews, I thought I would see a great movie about one of the greatest bands of all time & maybe the greatest singer of all time. But, in the end, I thought it was just okay.
Let's start with Rami Malek. Rami Malek was unbelievable & he deserves to win best actor. One of the best portrayals of a real person I've ever seen. He was Freddie Mercury. every move, every mannerism, perfect. The music is the best, because it's Queen & a couple of other great songs. Although the movie was over 2 hours long, it seemed rushed. Some great songs were missing and the time frame for some of the songs seemed way off. But any Queen songs is good enough.
But my main problem was I did find the movie to not be that interesting. There was nothing shocking, nothing we didn't already know. Freddie comes off as an egotistical prick, which he deserved to be, but it's not enjoyable to watch. There was not that much drama. And the drama there is, was just not played out right. Like the father is against his ways, but doesn't say anything. There's no tension there. When Mary breaks up with him because she knows he's gay, it's like nothing happens. Freddie is lonely so he throws big parties with people who aren't his friends. Yeah, we've seen that before. They play "Under Pressure" but no mention of David Bowie at all. Felt like they had to keep Freddie lonely for an attempt at some fake drama. They end the movie with a replica of Queen's appearance at Live Aid, which was great. It sent chills down my spine. And I'm guessing people are basing their love for the film, based on how the movie leaves them feeling. It was also great seeing Freddie Mercury himself singing during the credits. I enjoyed the movie over-all, but don't think I'd watch it again. I'd rather watch a Queen concert or Live Aid again.

Live Aid
Bohemian Rhapsody stars Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, charting his life from working as a baggage handler at Heathrow airport to becoming a global superstar and blowing the crowds away at Live Aid. I've seen criticism that the movie skims over the darker side of Freddie's life but I thought this did enough to portray not only the lows but also the highs of his private life, and his life with fellow Queen band members. It's funny, sad and very entertaining in equal measure. Rami Malek is outstanding as Freddie. This was already hitting a 7 or 8 rating from me as it neared the end of the movie, but then they go and recreate pretty much their entire Live Aid set, cameras sweeping over the Wembley crowds and inbetween the performers onstage. It's just jaw dropping and took this up to a 10 from me. And I'm not even a big Queen fan!!
