"The French really know how to do sex and bodies and affairs and palettes. I want every outfit in these films. This is a warm bath, a fragrant candle, a full glass of wine, and something deeply sensual at the base of your gut that is hard to name."

Call of Duty: WWII - Carentan Trailer | PS4

Carentan, one of the most beloved Call of Duty® Multiplayer maps, makes its return in Call of Duty®: WWII. Fight through destroyed buildings and fortified streets of this war-torn French town in an all-out battle for a strategic German stronghold.

New mom and new PI Kate Connelly is in a hit and run, and witnesses identify the car as belonging to someone from the French consulate. The consulate denies it, but it leads to a case for Kate when she sees a reporter leaving and the reporter turns up dead two days later. Was she working on a story on the French consulate that lead to her death? I love the characters, and the story was interesting. It did bog down a little in the middle, but it picked up again for a fun finish.

This was a fairly solid true crime read. It was an interesting read, and the murders were horrible. Though, I couldn't make heads or tails of the real motive of the crimes. Money? Killing Nazis? Protecting the French Resistance? The author offers what he thought went down, but I wasn't really content.

"I’m always drawn to misunderstood movies, ones that were either ahead of or behind their times. This Melville crime film about the French Resistance was both. It took thirty-seven years to open in America, and when it did, it received great acclaim. A surprise happy ending for a complicated and unsentimental movie."

This unique book brings six, talented historical fiction authors together to tell the story of seven (well, almost eight) women who played important roles in the French Revolution. Find out what I thought of this special collaboration through my review on my blog here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2019/09/27/liberty-equality-sorority/

Whoever translated this from the French is an excellent writer themselves. The language is nothing short of elegant, and reminiscent of Ondaatje. The story is simple but the characters are so vivid and special, they draw you in. Simply a lovely read from start to finish (and the twist in the end isn't bad, either).

In pre-revolutionary France, Jean-Marie d'Aumount's earliest memories are of eating beetles from the dung heap outside his dead parent's home. After being rescued from this, he begins a life of unusual tastes and adventures. My revised review is here https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2013/08/23/a-pre-revolutionary-french-feast-of-fiction/
