Sassy Brit (97 KP) rated The Note: A CSI Eddie Collins Short Story in Books
Jun 5, 2019
The Note is a short, fast, fun read written by Andrew Barrett, which features Eddie Collins a Crime Scene Investigator who has a few problems of his own to solve.
When Eddie discovers someone is out to kill him, he adds the death threats to the rest of his pile and sets out to avoid being killed. He has no idea who wants him dead, or when it will happen so he spends the next few hours cautious and paranoid wondering who his killer might be and when he will strike.
Andrew Barrett’s The Note is actually the first book featuring Eddie Collins and the first book I’ve read by this author. With a great plot, a fun, humorous writing style and a clever twist in the tale, I’m definitely intrigued to read more of this series: four of which are full length novels.
A short, sharp and surprising storyline, I literally flew through this book. I highly recommend to all crime fans! I want more!
With thanks to Bloodhound Books and Andrew Barrett for my digital copy. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of this book.

Merissa (13901 KP) rated Edge (Immortals of Indriel #1.5) in Books
Apr 19, 2023
After reading Emerge I immediately went online to see if Book 2 had been released yet. Instead, I found Edge which is the prequel novella which gives a glimpse of Allie and Aidan's lives before they met. There is a bit of an overlap in time between the prequel and the main story, which helps to tighten up the story, give more depth to the characters (which were already in-depth anyway) and also helps understand the reasons and objectives behind some of the decisions made in the other book.
I loved Allie and Aidan in the full-length book, but reading these insights into them and their lives just makes me love them all the more. This is a story, and series, to get your teeth into and I have loved every moment.
I'm afraid that I now have to stalk Melissa A Craven until I find out when the next book is due out! Absolutely, definitely and completely recommended.
* I bought this book from Amazon after being unable to leave Allie and Aidan behind. *

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When Caroline finds her mortal best friend, Felicity, at Destine Academy, a whole new string of questions unfolds—and Caroline is faced with the extent to which her aunt will go to get her way.As Caroline struggles to heal her body, her heart is torn between her growing feelings for both Corbin of the Surnaturals and Aldrick of the Magicks. But the lingering question is Does she even have a choice? With her aunt pretending the locker room incident was a simple gas leak, Caroline and her friends decide to take matters into their own hands and find a way to protect themselves against Tempeste’s growing powers. But first, they must return Eloise’s memories to her, if they’re to have any hope
And good instalment in the Destine Academy series these books are not long but you get so much info and story packed in you feel like you have read a full length book. We pick back up with Caroline and friends as they find a way to protect themselves from Tempeste. Really enjoyed it.

Merissa (13901 KP) rated Wayward Stripper in Books

A great story that left me wanting more!
WAYWARD STRIPPER is a short novella about a trans man on the run from his abusive ex, who lands a trial run at an Omega (Ladies) Club. The Head Dancer, Tristan, is on hand to help in any way and the sparks are instantaneous.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, but I wanted so much more! I would love for this to be a full-length novel, so I can get all the background information I want - the ex-relationship, Jake's escape, and more between Jake and Tristan. As a novella, it is fast-paced, but I would have loved more of the nitty-gritty that gives the story some depth. For me, it was a little too fast, with chunks either missed out or skipped over.
A great story that left me wanting! I would still recommend it though!

BookwormMama14 (18 KP) rated Winter in Books
Jan 2, 2019
Full review to come.I have really enjoyed this series. Exploring a future version of Earth where the moon in populated, there are only a handful of actual "countries", cyborgs, androids, and emperors work together to bring peace and safety to both Lunars and Earthens. However, I found Winter to be mercilessly long. That being said, this was an epic finale to The Lunar Chronicles. I am SO glad that I FINALLY read this series.
I have become quite attached to all of the characters in these books. I think Cress and Scarlet are my personal favorites...along with Thorne and Wolf. Of course, the majority of the series revolves around Cinder and she truly turns out to be a remarkable girl. Winter has MANY different perspectives, making it easy to get a little muddled, but doesn't take long to get in the flow. I think by having so many point of views of the surroundings and activities it helps fill a lot of would be gaps. This is also a contributing factor to why the book is so long. Hardcover is 827 pages in length and took me about a week to complete. To keep this review spoiler free for anyone who hasn't read the first three books, I will simply state that Winter wraps the whole story up quite nicely. And despite its length, this is a journey that I am glad I was a part of.
The Lunar Chronicles is not a Christian series and is marketed as "Young Adult". I feel that it is appropriate for this age group (and adults can enjoy it too of course!). The romance is clean and sweet. There is no foul language that I can think of. There is some violence as the wolf hybrid soldiers reign terror on Luna and Earth. Also there is a pretty epic battle to wrap everything up.
If you enjoy sci-fi and young adult fiction, I think you would enjoy this series! Check it out and let me know your thoughts!
I borrowed Winter from my local library. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

BookwormMama14 (18 KP) rated For the Record in Books
Jan 2, 2019
After reading Regina's novella Her Dearly Unintended in the collection With This Ring? I decided that I just HAD to read one of her full length books. I am so glad I did. Set in 1885 in the hills of Missouri, For the Record is a charming, adventure filled, book. The Dashing Deputy has an immediate sense of mystery that made me want to know more about him. And Betsy has a free spirit that melds perfectly with Deputy Puckett. Their banter and their adventures are a joy to follow and thrilling to read.
This book was a slow start for me. I'm sure it had more to do with the holidays than anything else. Because, once I got into the meat of the story, I couldn't put it down. Sprinkled with faith, Betsy and Joel's story is a fast riding adventure that is sure to keep you up till the break of dawn solving the mystery.
Although this is the third book in the series, I was able to follow the storyline just fine. I have a feeling that that the characters would make more sense if I had read the first two books. However, For the Record is a stand alone and can be read as such. If the thought of a Texan deputy thrown into the Ozarks intrigues you, I don't think you will be disappointed.
I received a complimentary copy of For the Record from Bethany House Publishers. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
