Another bleak British belter
British cinema tends to be a)about working class people and b) be very miserable. I had a group of American friends staying over and shared with then a selection of British films. They all admitted to feeling suicidal at the end of it.

Some people will watch Funny Cow and expect a rip roaring comedy about a female stand up comedian. That it is not. This is the story of a working class rebel fighting domestic violence and oppression by seeing the funny side. It is brave and probably be very misunderstood by most. For me it was a poignant reminder of the fight some people have to be heard. A brave and strong film.

Good to see the same cast back with some new characters (0 more)
Not quite as funny this time (0 more)
A good follow up
Been looking forward to this as the first was better than expected. It's good to see the same young actors of the first one back as it could have gone in a new direction. We do have some new characters this time, including Danny Devito who is clearly enjoying his role. Otherwise it's very similar to the first film. Although a different mix of characters in the Jumanji game for a large part, mixes up the chemistry that was so good about the first film. It's not quite as funny but very close to the level of the first film.

Deeply twisted parody/satire manages to be unpleasantly disturbing and consistently funny throughout. You kind of have to be familiar with the conceit of Scarfolk - a 'lost' town in the north of England, trapped in the 1970s and run as a brutally right-wing totalitarian dystopia - to get the joke here, but the recreation of the sort of useless filler that made up the bulk of children's annuals in the 1970s is brilliantly done. The inventiveness and attention to detail is consistently impressive, and most of the jokes connect - there's a combination of silliness, savage political satire, and League of Gentlemen style macabreness that certainly won't be to all tastes. Gets the balance between horror and humour just about right; very funny, but also undeniably disturbing.

Great music (1 more)
Funny cameo by Ed Sheeran
Very predictable (0 more)
As a big fan of the Beatles I was looking forward to watching this movie. Unfortunately after watching it I was left feeling disappointed. The first half was very good with a lot of funny moments such as Jack finding out what else has changed in the world and the cameo from Ed Sheeran. However what started out as a promising film quickly becomes a predictable rom-com. The best part of this film was the music which includes a lot of the Beatles greatest hits as Jack tries to recreate them himself. Overall I thought this was a fairly standard rom-com that was made better by having a lot of great music.
