A fast and fun vampire romance read. While it's not very original, it has its own charm, all the characters are likable enough, if slightly undeveloped (but the Highlanders are great!), and the plot moves along nicely, although the Stake-Out groups addition to the story was weird and unnecessary to the plot. I do feel that the title and cover misrepresent the book, but luckily, it looks as though the next three covers are better. One small quibble: since Shanna had brown hair (dyed or not), it would be impossible for her to go platinum blonde w/o first stripping the color out. Like I said, not a biggie, but faulty nonetheless. There were some interesting aspects: mainly the science part, but unfortunately there wasn't anything overly special about the book. Oh, and two scenes in particular were very funny; they were the blood shuffling one and when Shanna wakes up. Those two were about the only times I laughed out loud, but there were a few other amusing things too. Overall, the book was light, easy to read, and a nice diversion. I look forward to Be Still My Vampire Heart with Angus - I do love me some Highlanders! ;P

A funny, honest book
The first quote in the blurb on the cover of this book says:'Every woman should own a copy of this book' (Erin Kelly). Well. Perhaps not if you're easily shocked.
Julia lives with her best friend Alice and her boyfriend, Dave, and after yet another night of listening to their enthusiastic sex life through the wafer thin walls of their flat, Julia decides it's time to end her three year sex-drought. Except I don't think that she expects to learn that her drought might be because she has been looking in the wrong places.
After a disastrous experience with a one night stand where she's accused of 'breaking' the man's penis (!!), she meets a female artist - and learns that she's much happier and more fulfilled with a woman.
This book is sexually graphic, and definitely not for the faint-hearted. Julia is rediscovering her life, and is on a mission to make radical changes - she wants to be happy.
It's a great story. I laughed, I felt sad and sorry for Julia in some places. It illustrated complicated relationships really well.
It's a great debut, and I'll be interested to see where the author goes next.
Thanks to The Pigeonhole for choosing another great book to read along to.

Pros:
▪ Laugh out loud dark humour
▪ Footnotes
▪ Set in England
Cons:
▪ I didn't find it sooner?!
Why have I not known about this book until now? Please someone tell me! I picked this up in my local bookstore last week for £1 (mainly due to the intriguing cover) and I quickly found out it's actually very popular.
One thing I loved about this book was that it was set in England, reading such a classic with local town names and even roads and motorways that I know very well really made it for me.
The dark humour in it is absolutely laugh out loudable... some people have compared it to hitch hikers guide humour which is odd because I'm not actually a fan of the hitch hikers... but good omens just had me from page 1.
There are quite alot of characters which can make it a little tricky to keep track but I didn't have too much trouble with this as I took my time reading it.
The added footnotes I found really helpful, some funny and others were genuinely helpful with extra information.
I'm quite excited to hear that Amazon are currently making this into a show!
I 100% recommend GoOD OMeNs!

I love the Transformers. I've been a fan since the original cartoon in 1984 & the original comic book run from Marvel. I've loved just about every show & every movie. Yes, they have had their faults, but for pure enjoyment, I loved them too. But now that I've seen Bumblebee, I know that they could have been a lot better.

Yes, this is easily the best of the live-action films. Let's just start by saying G1 versions. That should be enough, but even the story is better than the others. Sure, it's not very original & in one scene there's even a homage (rip off) of the Iron Giant. But it's great entertainment. The action is great, it's funny, but not silly like the others. I like John Cena, when I can see him, but he's terrible in this. But I can overlook it. The Rock has nothing to worry about. My main complaint is they make Bumblebee mute again. So stupid & annoying. Why? What's it bring to the story? Absolutely nothing.

I actually can't wait for the next installment & hope it continues this line instead of the last one.

What da the hell are you??
This movie is a mess! It doesn't know what it is which is unfortunate as it could have been really good - if it wasn't a predator film!!...let's start with what's good. It looks excellent and the action sequences are done well. The acting and comedy are also good BUT there in lies its downfall. This film is a comedy at heart and genuinely made me laugh a few times but the tone is wrong. This is a predator film! It's about massive alien hunters coming to kill us not ridiculous 'predator dogs' and 'your mumma' jokes. Now yes the original had the occasional 'pussy' joke BUT that was rare and was to show the connection between this 'family' of soldiers which then makes their eventual deaths more impactful. Here the jokes don't let up and what's annoying is (as I said) they're quite funny they just doesn't suit the tone of whst this film should be AND what a predator film should be. Finally this film has one of the worst final scenes and finally dialogue lines in cinema history - just awful!! Watch this for for a few laughs but DO NOT expect a predator film.

Phone addict Daisy will do anything for a like on social media. She shares almost everything from her life and exaggerates about all of it too. It’s a good skill to have when your job is to run the social media of a company, not so good when you accidentally send an explicit tweet through your company’s account rather than your own.

Daisy’s life is turned upside-down. She is sacked from her job after her tweet goes viral, and hopeless that she will find another place willing to take her. A digital detox is just what she needs. She goes to stay at a farm her sister Rosie has bought and helps her renovate it, meeting some interesting people along the way.

It Started With A Tweet reminded me of Cecelia Ahern and Sophie Kinsella, so it was right up my street. It’s lighthearted and laugh-out-loud funny and overall a really entertaining read. Daisy’s constant comments made me giggle and she was such a lifelike character.

It was also interesting to read someone going through a digital detox because I know for sure that I wouldn’t be able to just stop using my phone and my laptop. My life is social media, so I have a real understanding of Daisy’s character.

It has been a long time since I was captivated by a book so badly I didn’t realised is was 3 am on a week night and I was still reading it. Brandon Sanderson is an amazing writer with a style the flows smoothly. However what I love about this writer is the way he depicts his characters. In a world where bravery is valued over everything (to the point that kids are thaught to blindly sacrifice themselves rather than be marked as a coward), Spensa grew up with the stigma of a coward father. But she is a fighter and she navigates life with the confidence of a hero from the past, only to find out - when faced with reality - that being an hero is not that easy. Skyward is a book about many things: spaceships, alien war, AI and human relations with them, post apocalypse society, and search for the truth. But mostly is the journey of a teenager who though she had everything figured it out only to discover that between black and white there are all the shades of colour and that everything in life comes at a price.

I was really excited when I saw this book. I love romantic comedies and I had high hopes for this book. I was a bit disappointed.

Jason is a batchelor and has been for a while. He is a duty manager at the local hotel and is currently living with his two closest friends, Sean and Jim. When Jason receives a wedding invitation in the mail from his ex-girlfriend, Lila Holmes, his world goes into a tailspin thinking about the one that got away. His friends are on a quest to find him a plus one, while Jason is wallowing in the sorrow of knowing he would not be the one to marry Lila.

This book did not have very much romance in it and to me it wasn't really that funny. I didn't find myself laughing out loud or really connecting with the characters at all. On the positive side though, I didn't stop reading the book. I did want to know what was going to happen next and how Jason was going to actually face his ex when the time came. There were a ton of movie references in this book which really didn't add to the story. I will read another book by this author, though.

Unexpectedly good
Well I have to say that this film was rather a pleasant surprise. I’d been expecting a rather low budget trashy sci-fi but instead I got an action packed, gory and strangely humorous film - which was a complete surprise until I saw it had been directed by Leigh Whannell, then it all made a little more sense.

Don’t get me wrong, this is quite like a good old B movie and does have a slightly dodgy script at times but the rest of the film more than makes up for it. The whole interaction between Grey and Stem is brilliant, very quick and witty and often pretty funny, and the camera work and robotic style of the fight scenes works really well, especially with the blood and gore thrown in too. The acting too from Logan Marshall Green is very good, and he isn’t an actor I’ve seen much from. My only criticism is the ending, I wouldn’t say it was entirely predictable but it didn’t come as a huge surprise. But then I’ve read far too many books and seen far too many films.

Also, was I the only one wishing Alan Tudyk did the voice of Stem? He’s such a good voiceover actor.

So don't get me wrong I do enjoy this film, however it's something that I'll watch if it's on rather than seeking it out.
The story is okay, nothing particularly special especially theres so many films out there that have the whole 'rumour running away with you' plot lines. The plot progresses well but doesn't really have anything in it to want to keep watching, you're just coasting along with it as it were.
As a big Emma Stone fan, I'm gutted to say this doesn't do it for her unfortunately. Not saying her acting is bad, for the acting in the film as a whole is basic, no passion there. Emma is fab in films I've seen her in and this is no exception but with her talent she deserves a part with a bit more meat to it.
The good points is that it has it's funny moments, the story is alright to follow and can be relatable.
If you're having a chick flick'athon then this should be in there somewhere, I'd recommend a watch but it's not one I'd say go out and buy now.
