David McK (3562 KP) rated Kindergarten Cop (1990) in Movies
Sep 27, 2020
Early 90s (1990?) effort by the Austrian Oak to soften his tough guy image, playing the role of a tough cop who has to go undercover in a nursery school to track down and protect the former wife of a drug dealer.
And, of course, 'hilarity' ensues.
Or, at least, what the screenwriters thought would be hilarious, as Arnie finds himself struggling to cope with a class of 5(?) year old while also starting to fall for one of his colleagues.
Actually, to be fair, it's not all bad: it is enjoyable enough, just not laugh out loud funny.

David McK (3562 KP) rated Rush Hour 2 (2001) in Movies
Jan 15, 2021
2001 sequel to the 1998 original, picking up with Carter and Lee in Hong Kong (see the end of 'Rush Hour'), effectively flipping the script from the first film on its head - now it's Carter who is the fish out of water.
However, when the American embassy is bombed and the trail leads to the triad its not long before they are both back on the job, ending up (in this case) in Las Vegas and a link to Chief Inspector Lee's past.
Not as funny as the first film, with Tucker seeming to dial the 'annoyingness' up to 11!

The cabin in the woods- takes the horror genre and spins it on its head. Its funny, Intresting, fascinated and has a uniqute plot.
When five college friends arrive at a remote forest cabin for a little vacation, little do they expect the horrors that await them. One by one, the youths fall victim to backwoods zombies, but there is another factor at play. Two scientists are manipulating the ghoulish goings-on, but even as the body count rises, there is yet more at work than meets the eye.
A highly reccordmend horror film

Emma @ The Movies (1786 KP) rated The Boss Baby (2017) in Movies
Sep 25, 2019
I decided that after seeing Table 19 I'd go home and watch Rogue One as I'd picked up the DVD as they were putting them out on the shelved this morning... but then I noticed that Boss Baby had a showing in a few minutes, and it would have been rude not to see that too. There were some funny bits, and I quite enjoyed it, although I thought the "demon" children through Tim's glasses were a bit scary for a kids film. Probably that's just me associating it with horror films I've seen though. Where do I get a forever puppy?

Emma @ The Movies (1786 KP) rated King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword (2017) in Movies
Sep 25, 2019
Lots of people told me not to bother with King Arthur Legend of the Sword. I'm glad I did see it though, it definitely wasn't as disappointing as the naysayers would have had me believe. Admittedly I don't think it quite knew what sort of film it was. There were some fantastic funny lines, some good fantasy moments, and what (to me) looked like a lot of good "historic" drama. I didn't know until the day before that David Beckham was in it, while he might not be the best actors ever, that man has a good astonished look.

Emma @ The Movies (1786 KP) rated Uncle Drew (2018) in Movies
Sep 25, 2019
My not at all guilty pleasure is sports films. Love them. The trailers for this brought a smile to my face and I still can't see the title without hearing it as "Unclllllleee Dreeeeeeew" in my head.
While I enjoyed it, I was left a little disappointed. It was definitely amusing and seeing Uncle Drew and his team of OAPs (old-age players) was very funny. But the rest of the goings on left it a bit flat for me.
The dance off had me smiling and dancing in my seat. That was probably the redeeming feature.
