Curse the Dawn (Cassandra Palmer, #4)
Curse the Dawn (Cassandra Palmer, #4)
Karen Chance | 2009 | Fiction & Poetry
Curse the Dawn balances serious action with a very funny Freaky Friday style hijinks. However, such adventures are not just for kicks, and actually help to further the plot of other major characters.

The stakes are higher in book 4, with a God on Cassie's tail. At one point, quite literally. But when I look back over the books, I can't get over my love of book 3 enough and book 4 seems lacking in comparison.

Not that it is a bad book. Quite the opposite. Curse the Dawn is a necessary book in the series. It takes the series to a higher level. It's the start of a new arc for Cassie. We've had the trilogy of her finding herself, and now this starts her journey to find her power and place in the world. I can't wait for more.

The concept for The Meowmorphosis was great and it sounded witty and funny. However, it was incredibly dull and dry and put me to sleep several times. I don't know if this is because of the original book--I've never read The Metamorphosis. Maybe it would have been funnier or more interesting to a die-hard Kafka fan. However I couldn't get past page 80.

A conspiracy theorist and comic book geeks wet dream of a movie, not only bags of fun to spot the nods and winks but at times laugh out loud funny as Seth Rogan's voice is somehow ideal for Paul and with Frost & Pegg as co stars this really should have been the triple as part of the Cornetto trilogy over 'The Worlds End' by a country mile.

Jaine reluctantly agrees to write the wedding vows for the ultimate bridezilla. But when the Bride dies as the ceremony begins, Jaine begins digging to find out who killed her client. This is my favorite in the series. The mystery is great and it is so funny.

Cora is asked to make the drop for a blackmail payment. But instead of an empty dumpster, she finds a dead body seconds before the police show up. As always the story is very funny, but it also had the usual too quick wrap up.

The plot was okay, but almost all the characters made my skin crawl. The main character was only okay. The family of suspects were actually rather creepy. I have a feeling the author was going for funny, but it missed the mark for me.
