David McK (3623 KP) rated Fast & Furious (2009) in Movies

This was followed by the forgettable 2 Fast 2 Furious, which jettisoned Vin Deisel and most of his crew in order to focus instead on an out-of-favour Brian O'Connor.
This, itself, was then followed by Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift which, yes, was set in Tokyo and pretty much did away with all the characters from the earlier films.
Which brings us to entry number 4, confusingly just called 'Fast and Furious' and which acts as a 'reboot', of sorts, for the series, with the starting sequence (at least, if nothing else) actually taking place before Tokyo Drift.
This one brings back Vin Diesel, Jordanna Brewster and Paul Walker in therir respective roles from the first film, and also sets the template for what is to come: namely, a complete disregard for the laws of physics, familial drama and lots of cars racing through the streets.
It's also largely forgettable (like the majority of these films) ...

Can you Keep a Secret
By Karen Perry
Once read a review will be written via Smashbomb and link posted in comments
Surviving the weekend depends on whether you can keep a secret . . . Lindsey hasn't spoken to Rachel in twenty years, not since her brother's eighteenth birthday party at their parents' remote country house. A night that shattered so many friendships - and left Rachel's father dead. Now Thornbury Hall is up for sale, and the old gang are back there, together again. A weekend to say goodbye to the old place, to talk about the past. But twenty years of secrets aren't given up lightly. Some won't speak about what happened that night. While others want to ensure that no one ever does.
I’m not one to write bad reviews I just try to put my honest opinion but would encourage anyone else to at least try the book!
For me this was just a no go I was so bored by the time I got to part two even with an event at the end of part one! I can’t put my finger on what was missing but I just didn’t find it entertaining at all.

Faded Glory

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Albert Kemp is a lonely widower whose only son was killed in the war. Now, in 1953, he is working in a pub with a famous boxing gym upstairs.
It is here that Albert brings Danny, a fatherless boy he rescues from gang life. But as Danny begins to grow into a champion, the predators start to circle, luring him back into a life of crime in the corrupt world of match fixing. Will Danny listen to his wise old mentor?
Not what I was expecting! This came to me in a blind subscription box and it’s not something I would usually pick up. I think I’d have liked to give 3.5 stars so I went with 4 as it deserved a little more than 3. This is a heartwarming story of a grieving father helping a young tear away stay out of trouble with help of boxing. It was an easy read and really enjoyable. Got a bit emotional towards the end I’m not a fan of David Essex but you forget who’s writing. Also I had it finished within 12 hours so that’s always a good sign.

This is another fun entry in the series. The plot did a good job of setting things up, so when the murder happens, we are off and running. I did find a couple of minor things got dropped and the ending was a bit rushed, but neither is a big deal since things are wrapped up. Plus, we get to spend more time with Mel, Angie, and the gang, which is always a delight. Since the series is set in Arizona, we don't get a traditional cold, snowy Christmas, but we still get a very funny subplot for the holiday. And we get recipes for five Christmas themed, drool worthy cupcakes. Fans new and old will gobble this book down as quickly as they can.

I enjoyed the first in the series, but this one was even better. I was pulled in right away, and the plot never lagged. Because of how it impacted some of the characters we got to know in the first book, I found it compelling. I had part of the solution figured out, but there was a lot I hadn’t pieced together. The characters are strong again. I laughed at parts, but because of how things were impacting everyone, I also got chocked up a time or two. There are two recipes at the end to help with your cravings for ice cream and sweets in general. I’m already looking forward to visiting the gang again soon.
