Erika (17789 KP) rated Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) in Movies

I waited to write this review until I saw this movie a 2nd time, but my opinion still stays the same. It makes me sad, because I wanted to love this movie.
Overall, this film was ok. I wanted to give it a 7, but I just can't justify it. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing inherently wrong with this film. It just wasn't made for me. It skewed towards an older, family-having demographic that I'm just not part of. My parents loved it, so, case in point.
Once Ghost's motivations were revealed, she wasn't a villain. I feel like this should have been released last year, not now, right after Infinity War.
The only thing I found funny was the running Morrissey joke, and Michael Pena in general.

I wish we could give half stars in reviews, as I feel this one is more than a 4 but not quite at 5. Its a beautiful story, wonderful in its simplicity, about relationships and emotions and just being human. You can relate to all the characters, their fears and struggles and joys and challenges in figuring out who they are and their place in the world and just life in general. It was also a trove of information about birds and NYC that was interesting and helped the story instead of weighing it down. I expected it to be more along the lines of chick lit type fluff and was pleasantly surprised to find that it went much deeper. All in all it was a very satisfying read.

Wasn't the strongest of stories that are like this
Good but had it's down sides
The film was adequate to what other films are out there in this general style, I loved the cast and the filming was good. However the film took a while to kick in and i found myself gorming at my phone more so than watching the film. I really enjoyed some of the story and the action scenes were okay, they could have done a lot more with the film, I feel as though it wasnt thought through as much as it could have been, but overall is a good thing to watch casually if you have the time, or even put it on in the background while you're doing something else.
Awix (3310 KP) rated The Wild Bunch (1969) in Movies

Brutal, downbeat western, notorious for its violence. In the 1910s a gang of outlaws takes refuge from bounty hunters in Mexico and enter into a shaky alliance with a corrupt general. Basically another film about the death of the old west, but less romanticised than (say) Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid; these are hard men in a harsh world.
Quite apart from the volcanic spasm of violence that makes up the climax, the film is notable for its careful ambiguity - the gang eventually earn your respect and sympathy despite their flaws, while the question of who, if anyone, is the good guy in this story is left wide open. A tough film about tough men, but great performances and intelligent film-making make it well worth watching.

Brilliant poolside material!
As soon as the book began I was interested in the main character. Charming, somewhat reserved and very knowledgeable with a bit of an ego. As other important characters are introduced a general sense of unease clouds over the story. Author did this brilliantly without making it too much of an uncomfortable read. Tension builds from a healthy point in the book and it leaves you just enough time to mull over your own theories of what's really going on. The shock value of the ending aligned nicely with the climax felt from about midway of the story. Would have liked a bit more character depth but it's a great if you want an easy-read thriller that leaves you satisfied!
