We are introduced to Joshua Thornton and his five children in chapter 1. The prologue brings Lulu Jefferson's view and a little bit about his parents. We are also introduced to Tad. There is a catch as Joshua moves his family to his former hometown.
He seems to get caught helping someone who tried to kill his cousin Tad in a church, and it seems to bring more to be involved. All when he goes to the state attorney general. It is more as his murderer with his arrangement and ends up murdered along with Beth Davis.
There is a twist when things get more complicated, and the state attorney general decides to ask or request Joshua to become a Special Prosecutor for the case of Vicki Rawlings and Beth Davis. They think he got the trust of the citizens of his hometown. Will he take the offer, or will he not?
Joshua is working with a police officer and a local reporter. What appears to be one thing is that his children are so like him that they want to join in and protect him. Does Joshua wish to be a dad and raise them, or will he hide from them and not send this child to live with their extended family? How will he decide to deal with the life he was chosen for?
Lauren Carr's Mysteries and stories are good. However, this one is less dense when it starts at the story's beginning. However, the action is improving, with this one being when Joshua and his five children are introduced. They are about school age. This book gets better as it goes along.
This is probably when she was starting to write these kinds of stories. This is their second series, so it has improved dramatically since. I love this one. I only wish I knew more about what happened to Valerie and what caused her to pass away. Then Joshua moved and settled in his hometown with his lovely five children. But other than that, it is a good starter book or series to get into her books, Along with Mac Faraday Mysteries.

A solid drama with beautiful cinematography
I began watching this thinking it would be like Little Miss Sunshine aka dark humour but good comedy. But it's not at all - it's pure drama, but still good nevertheless.
Annette Bening plays a lonely 54 year old mother living with her teenage son, and various lodgers in 1979. There's a massive generational divide, Bening was born in the 1920's and feels overwhelmed with her son in this era where punk rock is all the rage and there's general apathy at the world.
At this point she asks for help from her lodger, a young feminist photographer in remission from cervical cancer and a much older hippy mechanic. Instead they seem to confuse the situation further due to a gap in understanding about one another's circumstances, causing mother and son to further drift apart.
It's a different style of coming-of-age film because it shows how the mother's role is also changing and adapting to a new age of politics and societal pressures. A poignant, beautifully shot drama.

Well, to start, there were two very basic things that they could have gotten right. Harry drinks Jim Beam and his last name is not pronounced like the orifice, as has been specified in multiple books in the series. Also, they could at least have included Beate Lonn (or, was she supposed to be the chick at the computer at one point?).. Katrine Bratt was as annoying as I expected her to be, and I completely didn't mind that she was killed off. The plot was convoluted, thank god I read the book and knew the relevance of Stop in the whole story, whereas it wasn't clear why he was featured in the movie. It could have been so much better! The source material is great, and they completely dropped the ball. The scenery was beautiful, but, Norway is beautiful in general. Don't even get me started about Rakel, I have nothing nice to say about what they did to her character. Overall, I didn't mind Michael Fassbender as Harry, he probably did the best he could with that script.

Another reviewer said of Dr. Fitzharris' work that its one failure was its accessible style. As far as I am concerned, that is only a fault in a work if its author wants to keep it out of the eyes, hands, and minds of the general public. Like some of the best historians and investigative journalists of decades gone by, Dr. Fitzharris approaches her subject with an open candor, accepting him warts and all, and laying out his life as it happened, her only agenda being the service of history.
This book will make every reader grateful for the medicine of the modern age and will make you pause as you remember the lives of those passed before us who made the accomplishments from which we benefit possible.
