The audiobook version was perfect!
I listened to this via audio book, and they made the absolute PERFECT choice for narrator. Finty Williams was amazing! Seriously, her voice added a whole additional level of creep to The Girl With All The Gifts. Wow. If you can afford it, you must get the audio book! If you know someone who doesn’t like to read, but likes creepy novels, and may listen to an audiobook, get this for them!! Okay, okay, stepping away from the narrator fangirling…

Melanie, the main character, is a doll (not literally). So much so, that she could almost be a “Mary-sue”, except for, you know, the part where she might (not going to spoil it!) or {yep, this was also creepy). She’s very innocent, and very intelligent. She attends class with a handful of other children, who are as, uhm, ‘special’ as she is, and she adores her teacher Miss Justineau.

But she can’t talk to any of the other kids, and doesn’t understand why the other adults don’t seem to like her much. Then everything goes boom, Melanie is freed from her chair, and puts a few people in a VERY uncomfortable position.

This book was great, with a very unique take on its subject matter. Extremely well written (not surprising, considering who the author is!). It takes you on a journey that you really don’t want to end. Even if someone has spoiled the ‘secret’ to the book, it’s still well-written and very worth the read. I figured out the catch extremely early on and still loved it.

What About Me? by Vicki Courtney addresses the very issues almost every young girl faces in an easy-to-read style, as if they were sitting down together over a cup of hot chocolate. Each chapter has QR codes to scan that link to videos of real and darling girls answering questions like "What makes someone beautiful 'on the inside'"?

The book contains four chapters which are Mirror, Mirror, That Thing You Do, Get More Likes, and The Truth of the Matter.

The first chapter; Mirror, Mirror is about self awareness and what God says about inner beauty; accepting your body shape and appearance; not comparing yourself to someone else. The second chapter; That Thing You Do is about God-given gifts and talents; emotional ups and downs of this age group; problems with exaggerating to make ourselves more appealing; our worth is not tied into failures; handling middle school; dealing with pressure. The third chapter; Get More Likes is about choosing God's way or the popular crowd's way; accepting who you are; those embarrassing moments; bullying, boys. Lastly, the fourth chapter; The Truth of the Matter is about what does God think about you; feeling valued; being a princess and an heir; having a relationship with Jesus.

In between each chapter are quizzes, relevant bible verses, advice from high school girls, and "Letter to My Daughter". Reading this book can change the perspective in young girls about themselves and their world. It can solidify their relationship with Jesus and enrich their relationship with God.

I received this book from B&H Publishing Group and B&H Kids via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE MOVIE!!!!
Dear Reader,

They think I’m crazy, that I’m unstable and unreliable. I promise I’m not. I have been paranoid, yes. I have put on an act before, for sure. I have been involved in more than one scandal, it’s true. But I am not crazy, regardless of what my ex-husband would have you believe. He is an expert manipulator, a master of deceit, a specialist in the art of charisma. Read my story and you’ll see. There have been plenty of us, the women in Richard’s life. It all starts out the same each time; he’ll sweep you off your feet and shower you with love and lavish gifts. Eventually, though, you will do something wrong…something he doesn’t like. Then the mind games begin. The surveillance emerges. The attacks come out of nowhere. Love gives way to entrapment as he pulls the noose tighter and tighter. Just as it all starts the same, it always ends the same too. But I got away. Now, I need to make sure he can never hurt anyone again. So, read my story and stay away. Stay away from men like Richard.

Take extra care,

Vanessa Thompson

P.S. Don’t let this new psychological thriller slip you by. Read it now, before the buzz of its upcoming movie adaptation hits hard and makes the waitlist a mile long. It’s got so many layers that you’ll get to peel back as you rush through the storyline. Some will surprise you by how subtle they are and others will slap you in the face and make you question what you just read.

Has some twists you don't see coming! Keeps you guessing. Keeps building to the end. Makes you wish you had the next book ready so you can find out what happens next. (1 more)
Wasn't a complete cliffhanger, but it did leave you with questions. General curiosity to how the story will continue.
Starts off slow. A lot of characters appear at once. A few times I got a character mixed up with another. (0 more)
Keep with it!
Book Sleeve Description -
Can she write a world gone wrong?
A certain pen, a certain book, and a certain person can craft entirely new worlds through a branch of science called scriptology. Elsa comes from one such world that was written into creation, where her mother - a noted scriptologist - constantly alters and expands their reality.
But when her home is attacked and her mother kidnapped, Elsa is forced to cross into the real world and use her own scriptology gifts to find her. In an alternative Victorian Italy, Elsa finds a secret society of young scientists with a gift for mechanics, alchemy, or scriptology - and meets Leo, a gorgeous mechanist with a smart mouth and tragic past. She recruits the help of these fellow geniuses just as an assassin arrives on their doorstep.
In this thrilling debut, worlds collide as Elsa unveils a deep political conspiracy seeking to unlock the most dangerous weapon ever created - and only she can stop it.

Wish I had the second book so I can find out what happens!
New type of YA story.
Refreshing.
