I got to 30% and I just couldn't get into it, so I'm giving it up as a DNF.

I wasn't pulled into the story and wanting to know what was going to happen. I felt nothing for the characters and the sudden changing of years passing had me confused.

Not for me, I'm afraid.

This is a short story that was published in the New Yorker. The tale is strange and intriguing and fits perfectly into Ishiguro’s style. I listened to this story on the New Yorker’s fiction podcast which I would highly recommend as the reader spends time discussing the story as well as giving a reading. I really enjoyed this story and would definitely recommend it.This is a short story that was published in the New Yorker. The tale is strange and intriguing and fits perfectly into Ishiguro’s style. Bai Ling recommended Casablanca (1942) in Movies (curated)

Casablanca (1942)
Casablanca (1942)
1942 | Drama, Romance, War

"Mentally, Casablanca connects with my world. It’s very romantic, about giving and testing, and trusting and loving… And there’s the romantic music. Everything is [in line with] my tastes of romance. It’s also about an unfulfilled love, which makes everything more beautiful because you can’t have it. It’s just human nature. If you have it — you see the person, you see the romance — then the story becomes practical, like reality. But because it’s unfulfilled, it’s always a fantasy because we add so much of our own beauty, and romance, and poetry, into it. Also, Casablanca is about the sacrifice of giving love. Real love, I think, is unconditional; you give your love away to love somebody. Otherwise it’s not real love, it’s possessive, it’s ownership."

I played this for a while and enjoying following the story line, but you have to collect stars to progress and the number of stars required started to go up and also the levels started to be harder and you couldn't pass them without spending money. I have often looked at it and thought about giving it another go.

I loved the split POV for this book between Riley and Dez. I enjoyed the multiply storylines that ran through the book, giving it a very real feel as they dealt and reacted with different aspects of their lives. The ending was very real and honest. I will be looking out for other books by Dawn Klehr.

I'm giving this one up; a DNF. I didn't like the style or the storyline. I couldn't gel with it and I found it really bizarre that Harlowe wasn't scared of the vampire. Any normal person would be whether they have a fascination with Ireland and vampires or not. Just too strange for my liking, I'm afraid.

The Exorcist (1973)
The Exorcist (1973)
1973 | Horror

"This flick is great because of its approach and tone. Director William Friedkin cast strong actors, giving entirely credible performances. Linda Blair is a revelation. What’s cool is how the characters in the flick treat possession like it’s a clinical disorder. The cherry on the cake was the groundbreaking special effects makeup by master Dick Smith."

David A.R. White and William Baldwin both give good portrayals in this interesting take on vengeance.

Kind of felt like a cross between Taken and John Wick, on a budget. I completely understand that not all movies have astronomical budgets. Considering what this film had to work with, they accomplished quite a lot. Definitely worth giving it a go.
