361. In the Shadow of the Moon. Pretty sweet Netflix movie! I read the description 'life long obsession' and 'serial killer' and I was ready to go! Starts out with young police officer Locke, who really, really wants to be a detective, and happens to get involved with a string of connected murders, and actually has an early confrontation with the killer. Without giving to much away, after their confrontation, lets just say, it will be extremely unlikely that the killer will strike again. Afterwards Locke does indeed get his wish of becoming a homicide detective. About a decade or so later, another string of murders occur, same M.O. as the first... Of course Locke is completely baffled, and yep, he becomes quite obsessed, with this super bizarre turn of events. And when it happens another decade later... something going on here!! The description of the movie left out a huge element of the movie, I of course did not watch the trailer, because trailers suck. They usually give you the whole movie if you pay enough attention. But anyways, yea I really liked it, mostly because it was a surprise. No one is going to win an oscar for acting in this one. But like I said, the less you know, the better, in my opinion. I enjoyed this book. When I read it it sounded like it was the 2nd book in a series as they mentioned a previous murder but when I read further I realised that wasn't the case so am glad I continued reading and didn't give up.
I read crime books all the time and I enjoyed this one. It had a good story and it all made sense. I didn't guess who the murderer was and why he chose his victims.
As previous mentioned I was close to giving up as I thought it was a follow book and also within the first few chapters I struggled to get into the book which is never a good sign. I wasn't as compelled to pick up the book and continue reading as much as I usually am with books. I didn't really connect with the characters in the book either and sometimes I felt like rolling my eyes at some of the things the characters did. I didn't think they were very professional at all.
I was definitely the intended audience in that I read a crime novels and I understood the book. Age could be anywhere from 25 up.
I'm not excited to read the other books in the set so possibly won't.

A quick and interesting read

For anyone that likes this genre I would definitely suggest giving this one a read.

An Different Angle to View True Crime
So many of us that are into True Crime get caught up in the killers and this book, thankfully, gives us a kick in the butt to wake up and remember the tragic victims of the horrific crimes we pour-over. Taking a very in-depth look at the lives of the victims of Jack the Ripper we get a vivid picture of the lives of these women before they were so brutally ended.
This book gives us a window into the lives of women in the 19th Century that is fascinating.
I listened to audiobook read by Louise Brealey and I think mainly because it was an audiobook (and people had like a million children each!!!) it got a bit name heavy at points as well as other details being hard to take in. This though reflects on what is clearly a very thoroughly researched book. It's conclusion that not all the victims were necessarily prostitutes I think was slightly off the mark in that it doesn't matter even if they were there was more than that to sum up their lives.
There is always more to the victims of horrendous acts than we often look at while we are busy giving in-depth looks into the lives of killers. This book does a great job of refocusing the True Crime narrative.

Just Strange Overall
Anna and the Apolcalypse- is basically Shaun of the Dead meets Santa Clarita Diet meets a musical. You throw horror, comedy, action, drama and music all togther you get Anna and the Apolcalypse. I think their is too many genres in this movie. First its wants to be a drama, than a musical than a zombie film than a zombie action film than musical mix comedy in. So many genres i cant tell what this movie wants to be. And thats its major downfall.
The plot: A zombie apocalypse threatens the sleepy town of Little Haven - at Christmas - forcing Anna and her friends to fight, slash and sing their way to survival, facing the undead in a desperate race to reach their loved ones. But they soon discover that no one is safe in this new world, and with civilization falling apart around them, the only people they can truly rely on are each other.
Ohh i almost forgot its also trying to be a christmas film, revolving around christmas and set during christmas. Yes its one of those horror films. A horror film based/set around a holiday.
The reason im giving it a "7", because it reminds me so much of "Shaun of Dead" and i loved that film. And this film had good zombie kills in it and good action.
