Hoop Dreams (1994)
1994 | Documentary, Drama

"A documentary that doesn’t feel like a documentary. It feels like a movie, a movie that I get lost in every time I see it. What’s amazing is if you had scripted it the way it happened people wouldn’t buy it and wouldn’t believe it. But the fact it happened that way in real life, it was mesmerizing and those two boys they were real and you rooted for them and you felt for them and you went through every emotion with them. It was so beautifully done and changed the game in terms of documentaries in making them more commercial and giving them a bigger platform than they had prior."

History, huh? Bet we could make some

OKAYYYYY

I knew I would love this book before I even opened it. It just has everything I love about fiction and I love both Alex and Henry and it was ever so happy, and if you know me you know I LOVE happy.

Don't get me wrong I did love this and I absorbed it and couldn't put it down but there were just a few little things that I didn't love which is what's holding me off on giving it the 5-star rating I really wanted to give it but it's still definitely my favourite book I've read this year.

Engaging Thriller
This book didn't waste any time getting going while still giving us a good feeling for the characters.

With the abduction of the youngest child of a content wealthy mother of three, Bree Cabbat, I did wonder if we were going to go down a path too frequently travelled in thrillers of late for me. But the twists hit early and hard leaving me gripped.

Jackson again demonstrates a writing style that gets me on board with characters I would usually have little regard for, making me desperate to find out their fate.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the copy.

Great story line (0 more)
Not the same as original scooby doo graphics (0 more)
Great but too cartoony
Contains spoilers, click to show
So this finally arrived on now tv and thought why not show the kids a bit of my childhood. The overall film was great and I loved how it gave you the story of how shaggy met scooby and why there bond is so close. However I did find the graphics were a little bit too overly cartoony for me but then I grew up with the old school scooby doo so maybe nothing would compare to that. Would definitely recommend giving it a watch though, especially if like me you grew up with the programme!

Paths of Glory (1957)
1957 | Classics, Drama, War

"Pick one Kubrick—tough. Pick one of Kubrick’s films about war—still tough. But there is a unique quality of Paths of Glory that speaks not only about the power of war films as antiwar vehicles but also about the issue of war in general. That despite how much the methods men use to murder, maim, and mutilate have changed over the years, the truth of man’s inhumanity to man has been a sick constant, that barbed wire and bureaucracy are equal methods to delay and destroy, and that giving a face to the mounting numbers is as important now as it was in the past."
