I cried

God, I was so willing these two on. They were perfect for each other. And the more we learnt about her relationship with her ex, I was just so...heartbroken for her, for them both. If only Oliver had gone for it sooner then she really could have avoided all the heart ache. But they got there in the end.

"I’d lie if I said this film doesn’t knock my socks off—I’d like to, since it’s so prevalent, but it’s undeniable how cool and free it is! This will never be replicated ever; it’s Godard’s Citizen Kane, cursed by that fact, I’m sure, but thank God he hired all the right people and made it. Cool was dead after it—why bother?"

"I jokingly call myself a ‘Borg-again Christian.’ Born into the Episcopalian church and raised Catholic, I bolted from organized religion when it got too hard to find God — when politics and certainty replaced mystery and faith. Years later, this book brought me back. It’s a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when the church commits itself to love and justice above all."

"Don DeLillo is my sentence god. His sentences are more nuanced and forceful and beautiful than any sentences I know. If, upon departing for this hypothetical island, I were to be told I had to shed some weight, I could (though I’d be sorry to) just take a single DeLillo sentence with me, and read it over and over again."

I kind of admire how Hostel goes from cooky teen sex comedy, to Oh God make it stop torture porn at the drop of a hat. Pretty trashy, but one of those movies that everyone talked about when I was in high school and I low key rated it whilst being an edge lord. As a grown ass man, it's tolerable at best...

Rolling Stone's 243rd greatest album of all time
Superb hard rock/blues album. Whether or not they were the first heavy metal band is irrelevant, the songs here are fantastic. Includes the self-titled song, the brilliant NIB and my favourite Sabbath song - Warning - as close to a heavy version of The Beach Boys' God Only Knows as we're likely to see.
