The MCs of this book are simply not as likably as Fin MacLeod of The Lewis Trilogy. For most of this book, the MC (the one in 1st person) is unsure of who he is, though it seems obvious that he is related to another MC. As someone who experienced traumatic amnesia, I know that the character's amnesia is well done, but as a reader I didn't like it--it lasted too long. This was a good read, just not as thrilling as his other books.

"“I’m not typically interested in poetry, but I discovered The Flowers of Evil in high school as I was just becoming a goth and getting into Trent Reznor – and everyone else was getting into the Beat poets, who I find comparably boring if we’re going to discuss druggy, surrealist poetry. This work is so visceral, filthy and gorgeously written. It feels like a distillation of the opium scenes from Pearl S. Buck’s The Good Earth, but more abstract and extensively documented. This one poem is just a disgusting, sexual description of a corpse that is permanently burned into my mind.”"

[Metal Flesh (The After Eden Series: Tek-Fall, Episode I] by [Austin Dragon] was an interesting view of the future. Sprocket is an atheist who's father was killed by a mysterious hit man. The world is dominated by tek. He is trying to find the only person who can help him, Goth Lila. Will he be able to handle what he finds out?

The characters were very good. I also likes how the story was broken up not only in chapters but time and place within the chapters. The story did seem to jump around a little but perhaps because I have not read the other books by [Dragon] yet. I plan to do just that.

One could view this as one of the best Goth romance movies. On a small island, a young winery guide, Moll, meets and falls for the dangerous stranger who may or may not be murdering young women on the island. It is a sexual awakening for the outsider. Moll unearths untold power and strength. Recently, I have been watching a lot of Jessie Buckley performances. I have noticed that she has a huge tic where when she speaks she upturns the right side of her lips. It is far noticeable when she plays American, like in "Fargo" and "I'm Thinking of Ending Things." But she also uses it here to twist herself as she spirals toward an inevitable clash.

"All of his albums are just collections of songs because this was in the pre-album era, but I guess there was one in Mississippi called Key To The Kingdom. He was a spiritual blues singer who played an instrument, a fretless zither. Even though it's the blues era, he can't bend the notes like a guitar player would. He's sometimes known as George Washington Phillips. His music is really serene and otherworldly and pure. It's all very religious but it has its own atmosphere that I've not really heard anywhere else. I think when I really got into Washington Philips was when Sonic Boom put a song of his onto a compilation album called Space Lines. My sister painted a picture of him for Christmas. My sister the painting goth."

All black everything
After reading the review by @Andy K I went out a sourced a copy to view, so thanks for the tip.

As a lover of all music, I cant resist a biopic and this was as far removed from La Bamba as it could get. I was familiar with the story of Norwegian Black Metal mostly due to the burning of churches and the notoriety of those involved in the scene. Rory Culkin plays the narrator and so many times I thought it was Home Alone the goth years. Some of the scenes are so hard hitting and graphic but they are softened by the ineptitude and immaturity of the dark lords who are just kids playing peacock to impress each other and be the most dark and outrageous. This one upmanship is the catalyst to the eventual down fall off them all. The music is secondary to the story so hardcore fans will not get anything new there but the dynamic between Varg the very naughty boy turned murderer and the King of taking the credit Goth Kevin from home alone is one that most people will witness in life. Hopefully not too their extent but power and influence are explored and it shows how ideology can spread like a fire in a holy place of sanctuary. Unlike other music films and biopics there are now end part where you find out what they are doing now, so if this was deliberately done so that you needed to search more about it then they win that one.

Some upsetting scenes that would be unsuitable for children but not many kids under 12 will be fully into Norwegian Black Metal.

Glad you liked it. It's actually the Home Alone kid's brother.

I enjoyed this book. I read it as a late teen and I liked the innocence. The storylines are not as complex or involved as other vamp books but I'd advise you, if you're looking for something more adult, you look at maybe the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris or Halfway to the Grave (also a series) by Jeaniene Frost. The characters were not overly mushy or sexual at all really. I think this book is more for the early teen years. I liked it because I could relate, I was a goth teen and that fashion still sticks with me. I also love vampires!
The rest of the series grows up with the characters and you see them become more complex and find out new things about them. It's kind of kiddish in its simplicity, but as the series has gone on I've enjoyed it more and more.
