Eva Green (0 more)
Eve Green is everything in this show. She and Josh Hartnett are the saving graces. Out of all the penny dreadful/gothic horror, etc stories they could have pulled from, they chose.. Frankenstein, Dracula, and Dorian Grey? It could have been so much better. The season finale didn't make me feel like I wanted to watch seasons two or three.

Gruesome, grisly, Gothic horror
There is no true horror than the horror humans create themselves. The Picture of Dorian Gray is a classic tale of hubris and vanity, and the sins that associate themselves with such. Oscar Wilde's macabre style is fascinating for its time, and the idea that the painting is a representation of his Gray's own soul is intelligent.

House of the Hanging Jade is a suspenseful tale of murder and obsession, all taking place against a beautiful Hawaiian backdrop. Lush descriptions of both the scenery and the food prepared by the protagonist leave you wanting more. Fans of both gothic romance and mystery novels should enjoy this story.

Note: I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Very tense atmosphere (0 more)
Predictable (0 more)
This was a chilling read. Kept the suspense all the way through. Throughout the novel, however, it became predictable as to what would happen. A lot of horror troupes found themselves repeated. There is a lot more to this book than what is presented on the surface. If you're a fan of gothic horror, give this one a shot.

1935 | Classics, Horror, Sci-Fi

"Bride of Frankenstein is absolutely perfect. It has the innocence and beauty of a fairy tale, but has the darkness of a gothic horror tale. So the combination is irresistible. [On hearing that Hellboy comics creator Mike Mignola also named Bride of Frankenstein among his favorite films, del Toro said with a smile, “Well, we are alike in some aspects.”]"
