Some parts of this film stand up remarkably well 90 years on: the sets, the direction, some of the performances (Karloff is obviously excellent, Colin Clive perhaps doesn't get the props he deserves); it's quite atmospheric. On the other hand, making the Creature mute removes any possibility of discourse between him and Frankenstein (which is really the heart of the novel) - this is a cautionary gothic melodrama without much interest in exploring the ideas that underpin Mary Shelley's work. Still, obviously, a massively influential movie, and well-done for what it is.

College of Shadows (Cambridge Gothic book 1)
By Mark Wells
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cambridge attracts the brightest minds, the darkest forces, and the deadliest monsters.
New arrivals, Nick and Annabel, feel like imposters among the gleaming spires of Cambridge University. Unsure of each other and desperate to fit in, they throw themselves into student life. But when their professor is attacked by a mysterious creature straight out of their worst nightmares, their assignments become less pass-fail than do-or-die.
As the bodies pile up, the Freshers enlist the help of Giles, a dare-devil scholar who climbs the college’s ivory towers for fun. And as the shadows close in, these unlikely allies set out to banish the beast before their first foray into this mystical world becomes their last…
I really enjoyed this. It flowed really well and kept you interested all the way through. Still a little confused by a few things but think that’s just me. Very well written and a very intriguing read.
Otway93 (567 KP) rated the Playstation 5 version of Resident Evil: Village in Video Games

The gameplay, while mostly unchanged in style from RE7, is still superb fun, and gives us a slightly more open-world to explore compared to the previous Ethan Winters adventure, as well as a more traditional gothic feel.
The various characters and bosses are all very different and for the most part original, each having their own look, combat style and personality.
My only criticism is not with the game itself, but with advertising. Most people will have noticed that Lady Dimitrescu, the pale, 9ft tall queen of RE memes features more than almost anybody in posters. The thing is, she has a surprisingly small part in the game. Advertising would have you believe she is the main antagonist of the game, where in fact she is in fact the very first main boss. That is as much as I will tell you in that regard!
Altogether, an outstanding game!

A Dowry of Blood ( Book 1)
By S.T. Gibson
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is my last love letter to you, though some would call it a confession. . .
Saved from the brink of death by a mysterious stranger, Constanta is transformed from a medieval peasant into a bride fit for an undying king. But when Dracula draws a cunning aristocrat and a starving artist into his web of passion and deceit, Constanta realizes that her beloved is capable of terrible things.
Finding comfort in the arms of her rival consorts, she begins to unravel their husband's dark secrets. With the lives of everyone she loves on the line, Constanta will have to choose between her own freedom and her love for her husband. But bonds forged by blood can only be broken by death.
Not sure what I was expecting but I really really enjoyed this. Gothic vampire story full of that old feeling. The characters were so intriguing. Well written gave me Angel and spike early days vibes ( if you know you know).
