AT (1676 KP) rated Middlewest: Book One in Books

I enjoyed book one of the graphic novel, Middlewest. It was pretty imaginative, and I loved the illustrator's work. The story needs a lot more added to it, but book one is a great start.

I like the art work in this graphic novel, it is quirky and reminiscent of Sergio Aragones and other cartoonists from the late 70s and early 80s. The colours are vibrant, and this interpretation flows well, obviously it is shorter than the text novel, but I feel that they have done a good job.

Interesting modern take on the Arthurian legend that everyone knows. The only problem I had was that the "twist" was so predictable. Somebody told me the rest of the series was in graphic novel format.

Meh. Not something I would recommend
I received an email with the ARC information for this book a few days after I finished watching Aquaman, naturally, I had to jump at the chance to read this. This graphic novel has some awesome graphics and the plot line was fun to see through Mera’s eyes. Unfortunately, the beginning of the graphic novel was difficult to follow and once you got over that hump, it was way too predictable. I wish that there was something that would set this book apart but I just wasn’t impressed.

See like a vampire?
Illustrated in the colours that the vampires of this graphic novel can see, Red, Black and white dominate the wood print style images. No to everyone's preference, and it does tire the eyes after a while of reading, the story starts off humorously but does seem to find it difficult to go further than that, not finding its place successfully throughout the remainder of this Graphic novel. A shame as I think it all had potential.
Victoria Lynn (2 KP) rated Watchmen in Books

I think Watchmen is a marvelous graphic novel about the idolization of heroes in society. We praise heroes, but what happens when they are not necessarily the good guys? Are you wrong for rooting for justice, rather than goodness?
AT (1676 KP) rated Locke & Key Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft in Books
Jan 6, 2019
The timeline in this graphic novel went back and forth a bit, so it was confusing in the beginning. However, once the family moved, it started to make a lot more sense. It's an interesting, but psychologically creepy story.

This graphic novel is a must read. The story is brilliant and captivating and the artwork is beautiful and very fitting to the story. Heartwarming stories of empowered and brilliant women and the struggles that they face in a fantastical world.

This was exactly like the novel. I am so happy with this graphic novel! The artwork is amazing. The scenes that made me cry in the book were so excellent. I loved the relationships between the characters. Seeing them all together again made my heart hurt, but it was a good kind of hurt. So much love for these books!
