An important part of Greek mythology
This is essential reading for those who want to understand certain cultural references such as Freud and the Oedipus Complex. And as Greek mythology stands, it is an incredibly important part, aside from Oedipus, Antigone is his daughter and all the subsequent sacrifices she had to make due to the curse. It is dark, but intriguing, well worth the read.

This was your typical, hilarious Rick Riordan companion novel. Like Percy Jackson telling us in his witty way about Greek mythology in the two books about Greek Gods and Greek HeroesÂ… Various residents of Hotel Valhalla tell us about Norse mythology. It was filled with interviews, stories and jokes. Part encyclopedia and part comedy sketch. I do wish that it was longer and more in depth. Generally, people know more about Greek mythology than they do about other types, so it would be great to have a more expansive discussion about the gods, goddesses, monsters and origin stories in Norse Mythology. Perhaps this will be rectified in a future expanded novel? That would be my one criticism for this book, otherwise it was a fantastic, quick, funny read. Highly recommended for middle grade and young adult readers who are already fans of Rick Riordan's, love fantasy, mythology, funny books or pretty much anything else. I just recommend that you read the Magnus Chase series before delving into this book to give yourself a little familiarity.

Tongue and cheek feminist outlook of Greek mythology
This is pretty hilarious. Once again, the master of feminist prose Margaret Atwood has created a modern day version of Penelope from the Greek mythology of Odysseus in which she is no longer alive. She's rather outspoken, feisty and sly attempting to live with her brutish husband while on Earth. At the same time, her hatred for Helen of Troy has seeped into her afterlife as well. I love the ending talking about liposuction and heels. A fun read.
Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief review
This book is such an amazing, attention gripping story about the adventure of half blood Percy Jackson. The link between the real world and the fantasy world of Greek mythology makes this novel stand out amongst others, it makes the whole plot of the story much more exciting as well as being educational about Greek beliefs in mythology.

Lyrically beautiful, humanist version of Greek mythology
For fans of Greek mythology, this is an absolute dream. Focusing on the stories of the wife of Agamemnon, Clytemnestra, and children, Electra and Orestes, Colm Toibin brings to life very human characters in which all are victim and perpetrator.
Hearing perspectives of all three following the sacrifice of daughter Iphigenia, then the murder of Agamemnon as well as the banishment of Orestes, we hear how each feel betrayed and in turn seek vengeance or what they deem is justice.
While most of it is faithful to the original story, a few characters have been added to flesh out the main roles including best friend and lover of Orestes, Leander. A great read for mythology fans.

I had heard a lot of good things about this book and admittedly I was quite late to the party. But I'm glad that I managed to nab myself a copy from the library to read. This book has definitely revived my love for Greek mythology. The story of Circe is really well written and I love how it encompasses other areas of Greek mythology like Odysseus and Prometheus. At times I did find my mind wandering as there were areas that didn't grab my attention as much as others but it was brought back quite swiftly. I will definitely be reading more of this author's works!
