A strange debut horror story for Guillermo del Toro. It has a certain charm to it, bringing a new idea to a vampire tale. Character driven rather than over the top shock and gore. Still it looks rather dated now due to the low budget.

Wow. That's all I really have to say for this magnificent, beautiful, and emotional stop-motion film that tells the story of Pinocchio like I have never seen it before. What a glorious piece of art that may just be my new favorite Guillermo del Toro film.

Del Toro's worst
Guillermo Del Toro is a fantastic director, but he really does himself a disservice with this film. It's an interesting story idea and the effects are pretty decent, it's just a shame the acting and script are awful. Charlie Day is beyond irritating in every scene he's in, and even Idris Elba doesn't come off well.

"I hate fantasy movies. I did not want to see this film. I don’t remember why I ended up seeing it, but it immediately drew me in and left me breathless. Guillermo del Toro has the ability to create magical worlds that are emotionally grounded, and he never shies away from the darkness that exists in both fantasy and reality."
