David McK (3425 KP) rated Sandstorm (Sigma Force, #1) in Books
Jul 26, 2021
I don't know whether or not that is because this one is burdened with the world-building; with introducing Sigma Force and the Guild and, effectively, laying the groundwork for the later entries.
Starting with a (literal) bang - an explosion in the British Museum - this is soon off to Arabia to investigate the mystery of a vanished ancient city that once belonged to the Queen of Sheba, as a gigantic megastorm brews up over the desert.
Think Indiana Jones, throw in a touch of 'Sahara' and add a soupcon of James Bond/Jason Bourne and, I think, you're more-or-less there.

AJaneClark (3975 KP) rated Strike Back - Season 5 in TV
Aug 11, 2020 (Updated Aug 11, 2020)
Strike Back (season 5) Legacy is a ten part high octane fuelled, action packed explosive drama series, featuring some very familiar faces, some bad language and lots of guns.
This season sees Stonebridge, Scott and the team go through some highs and lows travelling the world from Thailand to North Korea and then Switzerland and the US. They take on a number of bad guys, in completely impossible situations bring some sex and comedy to the mix. It’s hard not to like these two and their antics. Expect some loss, heartache and heroics.
If you are after all out action, easy to follow story lines and basic entertainment, this is the show for you

David McK (3425 KP) rated Skyfall (2012) in Movies
Aug 27, 2023 (Updated Jun 9, 2024)
That, for me, summed up everything that was wrong with the Daniel Craig Bond films, of which this was the third - give me my exploding pen, dangit!!
Anyway, this oft pops up on lists of 'best of' Bond films, with the plot to do with Bond on the trail of a stolen hard disk drive that contains a list of undercover agents, and with Judi Dench's 'M's past (and a bit of Bonds own).
Thankfully, they start bringing back the gadgets towards the end of the film - in particular, during the final act in Scotland - in the form of Bond's Aston Martin(?), complete with machine guns behind the headlights and an ejector seat!
It is a strong entry in Craig's tenure, yes, but I *think* I still prefer Casino Royale.
