While in some ways a strange marriage, Dumbo has several Tim Burton elements: an evil rich guy, Michael Keaton/Danny DeVito/Eva Green, outsiders, people who don't get a lot of sun even though they live in a traveling circus. The most Tim Burton thing about it is when Dreamland is engulfed in smoke surrounded by dark clouds and Nightmare Island. The rest of the film is mostly live action Disney. Dumbo has Bambi-like doe eyes and except for the evil wannabe tycoon the humans are sentimental and protective of the kids.

I really liked this novel. I found that I really enjoyed John Green. I've heard a lot about him and I figured I'd give him a try, the fact that I found a novel by him and my favorite author was simply icing on the cake. I'm always nervous to start a David Levithan novel because you never know if it going to change your life. This book was not earth shattering but it was still an extremely interesting read and made me smile.
The characters were outrageous. Tiny was hilarious and irritating at the same time. I wanted to hug him and punch him. Will Grayson (1st Will Grayson) was an interesting guy. I found him annoying yet lovable and realistic. will grayson(2nd Will Grayson) was an interesting read. You don't get the characters when they are in the middle of everything. You get a character who is struggling with the onset of depression but never the character who has it and is just living with it.
I found myself really entertained with this novel. I am definitely glad that I read this novel and I will definitely look into John Green.

Brutally effective cry-porn, succeeds at that and nothing else but it doesn't really need to - and considering how clunky the rest of it feels it's probably for the best that it didn't try to be anything more. Enough has been said about the very justified anger this caused in romanticizing this incredibly serious disorder but imo it isn't all too much different from how đđ©đŠ đđąđ¶đđ” đȘđŻ đđ¶đł đđ”đąđłđŽ also cheesily used cancer. Thorne and Riggle are terrific, Patrick Schwarzenegger gives one of the worst performance of 2018 and it's straight-up riotous to watch this guy try and emote. Has the 2014 artsy Tumblr hipster white-Christmas-lights aesthetic and everything. Mostly all I could have hoped for out of it as this stupid, overly-quirky genre of John Green clones continues to ironically swoon me.

382. The Salvation. A bad-ass western featuring Mads Mikkelsen! Jon Jensen has been waiting for his wife and son to make their way to America during the 1870s. Jon has been there for a while building a life. And on the very day they arrive, they are murdered. Jon takes swift action and violently kills these two pieces of shit. Unfortunately, one of those pieces of shit has a big brother named Henry that pretty much runs the town through fear and taxes. So when Henry hears of his brothers murder, he wants his own revenge. And sure they go out and find Jon pretty easily and take him in. They quickly realize that a man with nothing to lose, is gonna fight back! Like I said Mads is awesome! Jeffrey Dean Morgan is great as the bad guy Henry. And Eva Green, sure she doesn't say one word in the movie, is freaking great! Like Westerns? This is one to check out!! Filmbufftim on FB

178. Some Freaks. A pretty decent little drama about young life, and young love and the way it just kicks you in the fucking balls at times. Meet Matt (played by a guy named Thomas Mann, that I'm pretty sure has been in teen dramas as a teen for the past 20 to 40 years) he has got one eyeball, even wears an eyepatch, pretty badass, but he's in high school, and high schoolers are dicks, and do anything possible to make his life shittier, daily. One day, he gets a new lab partner named Jill, and she goes through her own high school torture because shes overweight. I wouldnt say they hit it off right away, but things click, and they fall in love. Then high school ends. Jill goes off to college and Matt goes to work. 6 months pass and the two plan too meet... All the while the two have secrets to share... He no longer has only one eye, sorta. And Jill worked out like a fiend and shed 50 or so pounds, and of course they both are like wow, and both dig what they're seeing. But Matt also notices other dudes checking out his special lady friend, that wouldnt be so bad, but maybe shes digging the attention too much, or is Matt just a dumbell... Could go either way. It was a really cool flick, does not have the fairy tail ending thats too be expected most of the times... And uh-oh, its filmed in Rhode Island, don't really see to much of it, except they do go to the AS220, and some gorgeous shots of TF Green Airport... I'm just kidding there cant possibly be any gorgeous shots of TF Green lol. Check it out, it was a good drama... Filmbufftim on FB

You feel that had The Green Lantern arrived on the scene in 2011 not competing with a host of other super hero films, such as Thor, X-Men: First Class and Captain America, it might have had a better welcome.
For me the super hero genre really is bordering a mass overkill, what with this years upcoming Avengers getting so much press its hard to turn a corner without seing one of Iron Man, Hulk or Thor adoring a billboard or poster somewhere.
So itâs a shame then that Hollywoodâs Mr. Nice guy, Ryan Reynolds, was given a role so bland and pointless it was almost insulting.
Director Martin Campbellâs previous outings Casino Royale and Edge if Darkness were deep gritty affairs and he really should have carried that over into this, there was so much flamboyant colour you wondered if Joel Schumacher had some how been a part of it.
That isnât to say that during some stages the film was not enjoyable. Test pilot Hal Jordan is given the power bestowed on him by a mysterious ring with a back story shoe horned into an opening five minute monologue, if youâre not paying attention its going to be a little confusing.
The action and special effects are very good, with the Green Lantern able to concoct a wide range of objects from his mind ranging from missile launchers, swords and even a necklace, all transferred through the power and energy of the ring.
The less so, well Reynolds is surrounded by characters that only really dip their toe into the water of the film. With thousands of Green Lanterns we only really here from two, Tomar-Re and Kilowog voiced by Geoffrey Rush and Michael Clarke Duncan respectively.
Mark Strong as Sinestro on first glance has the look of someone bound to step over to the evil side, and maybe that is to come if a sequel is due at some point.
Peter Sarsgaardâs large headed villain only serves as an entrĂ©e before Hal has to tackle the large bellowing cloud that is Parallax, an entity that thrives on sucking out the fear of its victims.
The film has its moments, but it never really has the energy that so many other super hero films have. Perhaps that fact that the back story of Hal is not nearly as exciting as say Spider-man, Batman or any of the Avengers for that matter.

A Quick Story That Doesn't Linger
A retelling of an old classic, The Grinch is the story of a cranky green curmudgeon hell bent on destroying Christmas.
Acting: 10

Characters: 10
Whatâs a great Grinch movie without the star of the show being an awesome character you love to hate? I loved his story that touched a bit on his history and what made him the character he became. The supporting cast adds more excellence to the movie, but it would be nothing overall without the green guy. The movie captures exactly how mean he is like when he knocks down a kidâs snowman or puts something out of reach for a group of old ladies.
The side characters were something to love which added to the filmâs originality. I loved the goat and the reindeer as well as his trusted dog Max. Cindy Lou was just the cutest.
Cinematography/Visuals: 10
Conflict: 6
The conflict is there, but there is a bit of detraction having heard and seen this tale before. You kind of know whatâs going to happen and would be very surprised if the Grinch didnât end up turning over a new leaf by the end of it. The Whoâs arenât going to lose Christmas and we know itâs only a matter of time before everyone is happy again. Still, it was fun watching everything unfold again.
Entertainment Value: 6
The Grinch does have its merits of originality, but you canât help but feel like youâve seen this all before just in a different packaging. It is still funny, endearing, and touching even though it can be a bit repetitive at times.

Yes The Grinch is a borrowed story, but I loved what Universal Pictures did with this movie. With beautiful animations and sweet story, this movie is definitely worth incorporating into the rotation. I highly recommend it.

John Green is such a good writer
Paper Towns is a brilliantly written novel by John Green. Having only previously read The Fault in our Stars I have little to compare it to and cannot say whether it is his best. I am writing this less that half an hour after finishing Paper Towns therefore it is still fresh in my mind, which may explain my slight preference over TFIOS. However the story lines are so different that it is not really fair to compare them.
Set in Orlando, Florida, Paper Towns is narrated by eighteen-year-old Quentin Jacobson (often referred to as Q). It begins with a flash back to when he and next door neighbour, Margo Roth Spiegelman, were nine and discovered a dead body in the park. It is here that the differences in character are pointed out: âAs I took those two steps back, Margo took two equally small and quiet steps forward.â Q is an anxious boy, whereas Margo comes across as very confident.
Despite their childhood relationship, for the main bulk of the story Q and Margo have grown apart. They belong to different social circles: Margo to the popular crowd and Q with the gamers, band members and social outcasts. But things take a turn when one night Margo climbs through Qâs bedroom window and insists he accompany her on a nighttime adventure, going around righting wrongs and wronging rights.
But the next day Margo runs away telling no one where she is going, except it appears that she has left clues to her whereabouts. Clues only intended for Q to discover. With the help of his prom-obsessed friend, Ben; Radar, the guy whose parents own the worldâs largest collection of black Santas (seriously, where does Green come up with this stuff?); and Lacey, Margoâs best friend and Benâs soon to be girlfriend; Q struggles to understand the clues and uncover Margoâs hiding place.
To begin with it is exciting to read about Q and his friends unscrambling the hidden messages but as the story goes on and Margo is yet to be found a sense of dread creeps up on us and Q begins to think the worst.
The final section, however, is fast past and thrilling to read as the characters travel across states, with a rather short time limit, in Qâs mini van in a final attempt to find Margo. What will they find when they arrive? Will Margo still be there?
At first I was not sure that I would like this book. Chapter one is mostly about Quentin, Ben and Radar fooling around as boys do, but once everything kicks off with Margo it is really exciting. Similarly to The Fault in our Stars, Green has filled Paper Towns with clever metaphors with paper, string, balloons and grass being used to represent life. It is a very witty narrative containing lots of humour, yet also manages to convey important ideas about the way we see the world, and the people in it.
Paper Towns can be described as a contemporary, coming-of-age story. As mentioned already, Margo was portrayed as a confident girl whereas Quentin was the opposite. Despite Q stating âI wanted Margoâs disappearance to change me; but it hasnât, not reallyâ I think Green has shown major character developments, and possibly even role reversals. Q may never completely get rid of his anxieties and does not totally become a different person, but he does gain more confidence as he is forced out of his comfort zone, and his perception of other people also begins to alter. Margo on the other hand may not be all that she seems. The real Margo may in fact be a quiet, rather lost teen in a world she feels trapped in. I think this story and Qâs development has the potential to inspire others of similar ages and make all readers question things about themselves.
Overall, an exceptionally good read.
