Grab a Treat to Read with These Three Novellas
Kensington is back with another Halloween anthology for us, this time featuring three different authors. Up first, Carlene O’Connor takes us Home to Ireland as a trip trying to find Halloween decorations for Tara Meehan’s shop leads her to find a dead body. Our next stop is the North Pole with Liz Ireland’s Mrs. Claus. It’s the second Halloween in Santaland, and April Claus is dealing with missing candy corn, the themed ingredient for the bakeoff, and a murder in a bakery. Finally, we travel to Salem to spend time with Carol J. Perry’s Lee Barrett. The town’s favorite baker is missing, and Lee can’t help but get involved, especially when her visions show her where he might be.

As if often the case with these anthologies, I only read one of the authors. I love the Mrs. Claus series, and this was easily my favorite in the book. The other two were good, although they did leave me with some small questions I wish had been answered. Still, they were good introductions to the characters, as I had no problem following who all the characters are. All three stories kept me guessing until sleuth figured things out. While there’s obviously a culinary theme to the collection, we only get one recipe at the end. If you are looking for some new series, this is a fun way to try three new to you authors. If you are already a fan of these series, you’ll enjoy these between books check ins.

Halloween is done, Bonfire Night has been and gone and Black Friday is over, it is time to admit that Christmas is here.

This means that ALL the festive films are arriving on streaming services and Netflix, Amazon Prime and NowTV have a selection of great films each, and some real trash ones.

So, here are some of the best Xmas releases on Netflix UK, Amazon Prime and NowTV for you to watch over the festive season.

Christmas films on Netflix, NowTV and Amazon Prime include Love Actually, Home Alone 2, Polar Express and more:

Madeline Bean is catering the Hollywood party this Halloween. But things take a bad turn when the host, producer Bruno Huntley, dies in the middle of the festival. This debut features great characters and lots of fun twists to the plot and started what is still a top notch series. I just wish there were more than seven books.

A Carpenter Masterpiece
With an excellent eerie score, chilling suspenseful tone, realistic grounded acting, unforgettable quotable dialog, and genius inventive camera work. John Carpenter's classic slasher about a boogeyman possessed escaped inmate stalking babysitters on All Hallows Eve has been a huge inspiration for slasher films in generally. Not mention it spawned 7 sequels, a remake with a sequel, and a reboot. But after all these years John Carpenter's original Halloween still stands tall above the rest. A masterpiece!

For some reason, everyone my age that I know absolutely loves this movie. I honestly don't understand why. I think I've only seen it all of the way through once, and it was so unremarkable. I only remember a few things about it, one being that the cat gets run over. I don't really like Bette Midler, and I'm not a huge fan of singing in movies. I don't get the hype for this subpar Halloween movie.

Halloween special extended episode
Superior sequel series
Finally got round to watching both series at long last. This is set just a few months after the events of the first series. Is there a copycat killer in town, is there an accomplice on the loose or is Brandon James on the prowl?
Much like the sequel discussion in Scream 2 and raised again in the series this is better than series 1 for me. The same cast, now known as the Lakewood 6 are trying to get on with their lives when someone decides to pick up the knife and start a new killing spree. I found the pace a lot better this time round across the series without any slow episodes despite being 3 episodes longer. There are plenty of red herrings again and twists along the way. Finished with an extended Halloween special episode this is a great series for fans of the film and Slasher films in general. Still on Netflix now.
