While I very much enjoyed the first story, Sleepy Hollow, I was not as big a fan of the other five stories. I was expecting major creep factor, especially since Sleepy Hollow is so often turned into Halloween films, but it just wasn't there.

I think I am just not a big fan of Irving's writing style.

Rock Paper Books did an excellent job putting the stories together, though. The cover art was stunning and I am so glad I got this as part of my August 2017 Owlcrate.

All in all, it wasn't horrible, just not my cup of tea.

Believe it or not, until last night I had never seen any of the Halloween movies! And, I'm ashamed to say I was actually pretty disappointed with the first one - it just didn't do much for me at all. What's worse, I saw The Thing earlier this year for the very first time too, and I felt the same way about that. I know I'm in the minority with those 2 movies but has anyone else had a similar experience where they watch an older, highly rated movie for the first time only to be disappointed by it?

The Exorcist consistently seems to top a lot of 'best horror movie ever' charts. I think a lot of that has got to be down to the strong reaction it received at the time and how old it is now. It annoys me when everything these days gets labelled as 'the scariest movie since The Exorcist'

Yes shocking in '73... But some parts are almost comical now.

Campy 80s goodness
I love movies like this in my basement alone the Saturday night before Halloween!

When a bunch of teenagers start coming up missing, the authorities are baffled. Who could be responsible? It couldn't be the mysterious Virginia could it?

The death scenes are kind of what an 80s version of a Final Destination film would look like I think. The main star is Melissa Sue Anderson who must have wanted to break stereotype while filing Little House on the Prairie s she played the bad girl this time.

Thoroughly enjoyable film.

Very Funny
Decided to watch this classic again as part of my Halloween movie session. A very funny mockumentary following a bunch of vampires who all share a house and bicker over things like not doing the dishes or not cleaning up the mess after one of them has feasted on some virgins. Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi are both brilliant in this. Rhys Darby also makes a very funny appearance as leader of a bunch of local werewolves and those are some of my favourite moments ("We're werewolves, not swearwolves").

Cheese Factor
Fun
Escapism
Dark Shadows is a glorious tribute to the gothic soap opera of the same name. It is deliciously camp, cheesy and extravagant - in short it is the perfect movie to watch from under the duvet whilst steadfastly avoiding the January chill outside.
Johnny Depp (disclaimer I’m biased I think the man is a marvel) is everything you need in this role, fun Fact - did you know that as a child he used to dress up as this character for Halloween.
It is the most technically superb film of all times but it’s fun and sassy.
