Ridin' Solo
Solo: A Star Wars Story- is better than Rogue Story by a lot. Its more fun, entertaining, action, adventure, thrilling, and more.

The plot: Young Han Solo finds adventure when he joins forces with a gang of galactic smugglers and a 190-year-old Wookie named Chewbacca. Indebted to the gangster Dryden Vos, the crew devises a daring plan to travel to the mining planet Kessel to steal a batch of valuable coaxium. In need of a fast ship, Solo meets Lando Calrissian, the suave owner of the perfect vessel for the dangerous mission -- the Millennium Falcon.

I like Aldren Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Woody Harrelson was good, Paul Bettany was excellent as the villian and Donald Glover was good as Lando.

Like i said this is 10x better than rogue one. Its a good movie.

This young adult novel features Han and Qi'ra sometime before the events in the beginning of Solo. It gives much needed development to Qi'ra's character, and makes her actions at the end Solo completely understandable.
Both Han and Qi'ra are sent on missions by Lady Proxima, the head of the White Worms. Their missions are related, and when it goes south, they have to work together for the first time to get out of the mess. The story lags a little in the middle, but overall, it was entertaining.

This miniseries was not a great addition to the legend of Han Solo. I found it a little boring, and half of the first issue was a re-hash of the beginning of Solo. I would have thought Han's adventures in the Imperial Navy would have been at least a little more entertaining. This is one you can definitely skip.

Another movie that I feel gets quite a bit of undeserved negative attention.

An origin story of how Han Solo became the Han that we have come and known to love in the Star Wars universe. Some underdeveloped characters, as I think the makers literally just ran out of time and energy. Overall a fun movie with significant tie ins to the SW universe as a whole. Seeing the introduction of Chewy to Han was a personal highlight, as well was the performance of the great Woody Harrelson.

Passable star wars film only Disney wanted

This is potentially the straw that breaks the camel's back. An ok film with a great cast but unfortunately a weak story. Only Disney wanted a film about han solo as a younger man. The film only gets interesting when Darth maul turns up

Released roughly around the time of the worst-box-office performing Star Wars movie (a backlash to 'The Last Jedi', maybe?) of 'Solo: A Star Wars movie', this novel attempts to tie together three separate time periods: we have post 'Return of the Jedi'/pre 'The Force Awakens' family man Han who struggles to be a father to young Ben Solo alongside missing-from-the-movies (so far) Lando, a post Solo Hand and Chewie, and a pre-Solo Lando and L3 all chasing after the same McGuffin.

And, for me, it just doesn't hang together all that well.

Perhaps the biggest problem I had with it, however - and it's an irrational one, I know - is in the almost complete absence of the Millennium Falcon in the 'modern day' portions: if you're going to have it prominently on the cover, and have both Han and Lando working together, at least get their most famous starship in on the action!

Well, that, and the Ewok slicer prodigy. (I still associate Ewok's with Return of the Jedi and in how they are portrayed - i.e. as technologically primitive! - in the old Expanded Universe).

This is one of those YA novels that I wish I'd have never paid full price for... The premise was predictable, and eye-roll inducing. The one thing I remember is how much I hated the writing.
The movie is actually better than this novel. I suggest skipping the book and just watching the movie with the kid that plays young Han Solo.

Let's be honest, Solo was getting un-earnt hate from the minute it was announced. "No one asked for this" was thrown around often. "It's not Harrison Ford" was another one, and as a result, it was met in release with a fair amount of vitriol, and underperformed at the box office (apparently, still made shit tons of money...)
This is a great shame in my opinion. Solo isn't a perfect film by any means but it's still a fun and enjoyable sci-fi adventure.

Seeming as the plot revolves mainly around Han Solo, who of course is a huge staple character in the original trilogy, set after this one, the stakes are relatively low, and this gives the film room to relax a present us with what is essentially a heist movie, just one thats set in the Star Wars universe.

Alden Ehrenreich is fine as the titular Solo. He isn't trying to just copy Harrison Ford, but still provides something that feels familiar, whilst giving his own take on the character.
Donald Glover is pitch perfect as a young Lando Calrissian, and is arguably the highlight cast member.
It's great to have the likes of Thandie Newton and Woody Harrelson involved as well.
As I've said in my GoT reviews, I've always struggled to full get on board with Emilia Clarke, and it's no different here. She's just kind of there, and I honestly feel that the film wouldn't have suffered to greatly without her character.

My main gripe with Solo is the constant need to over explain everything - ever wondered how Han got his blaster and jacket? No? Well tough shit because we're going to tell you! Ever wondered where he got those dice that hang in the Millennium Falcon for like two seconds in one of the films? No? Shut up and watch dammit. Ever wondered why Han's second name is Solo? No? Well fuck you, because you're about to find out (and it's horribly cringey) Ever wanted to see what the Kessel Run is that Han spoke about once in the history of Star Wars? Well, maybe, kind of, but surprise, ITS A BIG CGI SQUID HAHAHA.
Any mystery and intrigue that you may have about Han Solo is explained away in incessant detail to the point where it becomes quickly tiresome. Not everything needs a back story dammit.

Honestly though, Solo could have been soooo much worse, but as it happens, it actually decent. It's not perfect as I mentioned, but I would happily take it over episodes 8 and 9. If you're one is those fans who have just straight up refused to watch it for some reason, stop being a silly goose and give it a go.

Sneak Preview on Monday: Solo obvious but fun
Don’t expect any revelations in Solo, it is very much a story we have already heard but in greater detail. You will see how Han met Chewbacca, how he made the kessel run in 12 parsecs and of course how he wins the Falcon from Lando. Donald Glover stands out as Lando mimicking Billy Dee Williams mannerisms and voice. Paul Bettany excels as the main villain, but keep an eye out for an old foe to make a cameo.

No end credit scene so no need to stick around...
