"For me, personally, I am not sure there is a great Cassavetes film. But the body of work is profound and inspiring. And it endures, which is the ultimate achievement. He allowed actors to create a spontaneity and sometimes an inarticulate dialogue that added to the heartbreak and humor of his characters. He’s a man who had the courage to tell stories in his own way. And that is his great legacy."

Its a tie between this book and the third in the series for my favorite book. The character development in this book is phenomenal. I fell in love with each of the characters making the emotions this book drags you through even more intense. I was on the edge of my seat experiencing fear, laughter, heartbreak and anxiety with each of the characters. I will forever recommend this series.

Hollywood Park, by Mikell Jollett, is an eloquently written memoir of heartbreak, identity, and turmoil. It is the story of a broken boy that grows into a man that wants not only to understand why he is broken but also how to fix the parts that he can. He spent his childhood memorizing and reciting the serenity prayer; as an adult he finally understood the line about changing the things he can.

This was one of those rare times where I watched the movie before reading the book. Even knowing what was going to happen didn't detract from the beautifully written and well thought journey. Full of entirely relatable feelings of not belonging, young love, heartbreak, the heart wrenching battle with tragedy, and more. Mia's battle with choosing to live on or to succumb to the tragedy that is thrown upon her is a worthy one to experience. Highly recommend.
