So may good ideas. A writers philosophy that can be read over and over. Not preachy. (0 more)
When you are open to ideas, they will come to you. What you do with them is up to you.
This was a great book which was really helpful. This is almost like a philosophical view on what it means to be a writer and what you should do about it. I would keep an open mind when you read it though because some of Gilberts ideas might seem a bit far fetched. As a writer though, I felt I could grasp her ideas, understand them and even relate. This is a book to read over and over, even if it is just to open your mind. So many good quotes in this book, it is hard to know where to start.

Every wanna be memoirist needs this book
I read this book in a couple of days and found it to be incredibly helpful. I wrote memoir for my dissertation in creative writing at university and was looking for some guidelines and tools to assist me, this book has it all. Barrington takes the reader step by step through the process of memoir writing and highlights the do's and dont's in each informative chapter. Her greatest piece of advice is to read, read, read as many memoirs as possible prior to the task. This book is not for everyone, after all not everyone wants to write a memoir, but for me, the book did its job and will be a very useful tool. I would recommend this to all aspiring memoirists.

I read a lot of fairy tails as a kid, but never have I read one this profound and unique: an ugly princess, a helpful dragon, a gifted farm-hand, a crazy story-teller, and an evil god trapped in the stones of an ever-changing castle. The language was beautiful and fluid and enchanting, the characters were all unique and special, and the plot itself had me sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time. I never wanted it to end but I was so happy with the conclusion. On top of it all, the audio-book was wonderfully read, full of character and voice, and Simon Vance nailed the personalities of the characters. I have no doubt I will re-read this book eventually, and I am adding Barnhill to my Author Watch list.

I really like how this was presented: Each case was described, evidence was provided as to who Brown believed was the likely suspect, and the status of the case where it sits now was noted (basically, dormant). I just received my Master's in Forensic Psychology, so reading how Brown became a profiler and how she uses her knowledge to work on "cold" cases was both intriguing and helpful for me. I especially liked her idea of creating a suspect bank through ViCAP that could be accessed across the nation, in the event that a suspect in one crime crosses jurisdictions and is interviewed in relation to another crime. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in the Forensic Psychology or Criminology fields, or for those who like such TV shows as the "Law and Order," "Criminal Minds," or "CSI" franchises.
