This book was so readable and completely interesting. Of course, I saw the movie first, and as is the case with most, I prefer the book now. I'm not particularly well versed in the Holocaust, so I was glad with the amount of history she included, as this was, history on trial. I was glad I ended up reading the book. IMO the Plaintiff is completely revolting and makes my skin crawl.

"Perfect for a deserted island, since it is basically the history of the Hawaiian islands and its people. Sarah Vowell's morbid humor and tone make even the darkest and the saddest moments in Hawaiian history, dare I say, enjoyable. From its glorious days with Princess Ka'iulani to her culture-shattering dethroning under Western colonization, Vowell seems to know how to rip your heart wide open while suturing it back up at the same time."

"Lepore has pulled off the seemingly impossible in her latest book: covering the entire history of the United States in just 800 pages. She’s made a deliberate choice to make diverse points of view central to the narrative, and the result is the most honest and unflinching account of the American story I’ve ever read. Even if you’ve read a lot about U.S. history, I’m confident you will learn something new from These Truths".

Surprisingly heartbreaking
It was a well written book, I loved how fiction was mixed in with history. However when reading the book I couldn't help but feel heartbroken for Elizabeth of York.

One of the best jazz guitarists in history
One of the most important guitarists in music history, Django Reinhardt revolutionised the jazz scene through his hot jazz band and gypsy jazz in 1920s France. He's even more remarkable for the fact that he lost the use of two fingers during a fire. His music is warm, like being wrapped in honey, and it's a treat for the ears. As a classical guitarist his music has inspired my life immensely.
