"My son Ben went to Elliot School, which is quite famous for producing musicians. The first one that I knew was Kieran Hebden, who makes music as Four Tet. There was a culture at one point that was encouraging people. Ben was in the same class as the xx’s Romy [Madley-Croft] and he knew Jamie [Smith] quite well, and I knew his parents. We even went to their holiday house in Norfolk. The xx were the shy ones, they were like a little gang. Jamie was the most outgoing one, and he was pretty shy. I knew quite a lot about how that record happened, that they tried first with a producer and then did it in a house studio. We were living just down the road from where that was going on."

"I came across that when we were all on a family holiday and we just played it the whole trip. I think it was around the time I was ten or 11, and we just played it constantly. It may have been around the time we had changed from tapes to CDs, and so my parents were re-buying stuff they had on vinyl. I don't remember thinking at the time that they all flowed into each other - [sings various clips] - but I know every bit of that album though, every hook and drum fill. It was so varied yet so cohesive, and I think a lot of that was down to George Martin. I'd never heard anything like it, and even at that age I was blown away by it."

This story is about a girls holiday gone wrong, very wrong.

I really enjoyed this book, I wasnt really expecting the whole plot to be about the lie and was surprised by this. I think it made it much better. I really hope that this hasnt happened in real life - what an absolute nightmare

The characters were interesting and believable. Some of the people at the retreat could have been better embellished to make them more creepier.

I enjoyed the two different time frames throughout and was hungry to read more about the events that led to the lie. At one point I felt the present day story was exceeding the historical account but this thought soon disappeared and it levelled out.
