I’m Glad I Picked This Debut
Vegan chef Brie Hooker hadn’t planned to start working on her aunt Eva’s goat farm and dairy, but when Eva needs help, Brie is happy to step in. That’s before a pot-bellied pig turns up bones – human bones. The skeleton turns out to be Eva’s husband, who disappeared four decades ago. There was no love lost between Eva and her husband, but Eva didn’t kill him. However, he has too many relatives in the area who are willing to blame Eva, so Brie starts investigating, hoping to clear her aunt. When another dead body turns up, Brie finds herself in trouble with the law as well. Are the two dead bodies related? Can she figure out what happened?

The characters drew me into this book right away; they are fully developed and fun. Their teasing and Brie’s creative meat and cheese curses added a level of humor that I enjoyed. The book was hard to put down with plenty of events to keep me engaged. Unfortunately, I did feel that the events took the place of the investigation moving forward, which frustrated me. However, the climax resolved things and upped the stakes in a major way. This book is a bit edgy for my normal reads, on the border between PG and PG-13, thanks in part of the teasing Brie gets about her love life. Yes, this book does introduce a love triangle. While I am getting tired of them, I do like both of the guys here, so I hope it doesn’t get dragged out for very long. Overall, I enjoyed this book. If you enjoy humor in your mysteries, you’ll be glad you picked up this book.

Honestly, this is my most favorite story from the Rabbit Ears series because it has everything that you would want to see happen in a fairy tale: comedy, fantasy and creative storytelling! Robin Williams was brilliant in narrating this story as he gave each character a distinctive voice and brought so much life to this story! I really enjoyed the creative tone of this story as the idea about having a flying ship that can take you anywhere in the world and having friends who have special abilities that can help you in a tight situation was really amusing to me! I also loved the characters in this story, with my favorite characters being the Runner and the Fool as they were extremely hilarious and interesting to look at. I also loved the focus on humor in this story as it made the situation and the characters much more memorable and lovable. Henrik Drescher's artwork is what truly made this story worth watching as the illustrations are bizarre yet hilarious to look at and I always loved the artwork of all the characters, especially of the Fool (who almost looks like Pinocchio), the Runner who has antlers in his head and the Puffer who looks like He-Man when he transforms into his muscular self.

The only problem with this story is that Henrik Drescher's illustrations might be an acquired taste for many people. Some people might like Henrik Drescher's illustrations for its creativity and its bizarre style while others might hate the artwork for being too ugly or too bizarre.

Overall, "The Fool and the Flying Ship" is a fun and creative video to watch and I am sure that many viewers will enjoy this story for its surreal humor and creative tone!

Matthew Krueger (10051 KP) rated Shazam! (2019) in Movies

Shazam! (2019)
Shazam! (2019)
2019 | Action, Sci-Fi
Spawn, Kick Ass and Don't Die
Shazam!- is the PG-13 verison of Kick Ass, Deadpool and Spawn. Mix all those movies together and you get Shazam!. A movie that has comedy, dark humor, action, suspense and viloence. In the end its trying way to hard to be the PG-13 verisons of Kick Ass. Deadpool and Spawn and in the end it just doesnt work. Its a good superhero movie, i give it that but it drags on for way to long than its supost to. Their are to many here's the end moments but nope its still going. What feels like the end its not, and goes on.

The plot: We all have a superhero inside of us -- it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In 14-year-old Billy Batson's case, all he needs to do is shout out one word to transform into the adult superhero Shazam. Still a kid at heart, Shazam revels in the new version of himself by doing what any other teen would do -- have fun while testing out his newfound powers. But he'll need to master them quickly before the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana can get his hands on Shazam's magical abilities.

Also you got the main actor who is not buff at all and put him into a buff suit, that also ruined the movie. It just makes him look buff but in reality he is not.

The comedy/humor is all over the place. It can be funny, serious or dark or even all three at the same time.

I give it this it is better then Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman and Suicide Sqaud. I think Aquaman and Wonder Woman are better though.

Shazam! is a decent movie, its just all of the place and doesnt know what it wants to be.

The Twist that Hits Harder than Any Punch
Fight Club is a classic at this point, itself a riveting adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's also classic novel. The first time you watch it, the twist hits harder than any punch thrown in the movie. The second time you watch it, it's fun to try and catch all the signs pointing to the twist. It's crazy good, mostly driven by Edward Norton and Brad Pitt's strangely powerful bro chemistry and director David Fincher's excellent vision. It is understandable that the casual movie-goer may be turned off by Fight Club however, as it is dark and a bit too nihilistic in places for its own good.

Great serial killer novel! Gotta love The Crazies!
This was a difficult book to put down. It has a great mix of features that makes an intense story; deep character development, detailed world building (but not too detailed because, you know, imagination), interesting backstories, mysteries, horror, a little (very little) humor, psychologically thrilling and it sticks with you for a time after the last page. This is the type of novel to read when you are sick of the typical happy-go-lucky, boy-meets-girl romance and you're looking for something dark but not too dark. On a darkness scale between Christian Grey and Black Sabbath, I'd give this a solid M. Night Shyamalan. (Whatever that means)
