Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2336 KP) rated The Monkey's Raincoat (Elvis Cole, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Elvis is hired to track down Ellen Lang's husband because the husband disappeared with their son. However, after the Lang house is searched and the first body turns up, he realizes he is in way over his head.
This book suffers from the cliches of the PI genre, but manages to overcome them with some pretty entertaining characters. Elvis and his PI partner Joe are both interesting, and Elvis's sense of humor is fun. There are some twists that surprised me as well. The book is definitely outside my normal comfort zone with the use of bad language and more violence, which I wasn't always comfortable with. Still, I do intend to read more in the series.

Kristin (149 KP) rated Contingency (Sage Hannigan Time Warper, #1) in Books
Dec 7, 2018
Disclaimer: I was given an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I am definitely in love with this book. Case closed. There's time travel, vampires, merpeople, shifters, and a mystery to solve before something huge goes down. And did I mention the love triangle? I have yet to decide who I want to win Sage's heart, because I like them both!! This story has action, suspense, drama, romance, humor, and it's just such an amazing book, I couldn't put it down! (Seriously, I read it in one afternoon, I couldn't tear myself away!!) I'm looking forward to the day when a sequel is released, because I just can't deal with that ending, I need closure!
*Sorry for all the exclamation points, but I just loved it so much! =)*

Sue (5 KP) rated Murder at the Makeover in Books
Aug 13, 2018
Kaye twins Georgie and Aleta are invited to what they believe is an impromptu reunion with classmates from high school, but it turns out to be what Georgie calls a makeup Ponzi scheme. She doesn’t want to take part in a makeover using unusual ingredients and wants to high tail it out of there. Unfortunately, an old classmate is found dead in the ladies room and the girls find themselves on the case.
Georgia and Aleta are 60+-year-olds, full of spunk, and can’t resist tasty pastries. They often find themselves in the middle of murder investigations and often find themselves in trouble with Georgie’s ex-husband Stan. Did I mention that he is a homicide detective?
If you like humor, hijinks, cozy mysteries, and fun-loving characters then this book has what you are looking for.

Vegas (725 KP) rated The Big Bang Theory in TV

Sheldon (3 more)
The cast
The script
The Humor
Brilliant
Probably one of the funniest shows of all time, Sheldon and Leonard two nerdy geniuses have their lives turned upside down when they get a new neighbor, beautiful, blond, aspiring actress and waitress at the Cheesecake Factory - Penny...
The socially awkward Sheldon steels the show but would be nothing without a very strong cast around him.
It is quite difficult to pick up if you start part way through, as I did initially, and hated it, but having been persuaded to watch it from the start, getting to know the characters and how they develop over the seasons, I've found there are not many series that come close to the constant high quality and funny scripts over so many seasons as this one does.

Anne (15117 KP) rated Little Weirds in Books

This was an interesting read/listen a bit different. It was a quick and short read with some humor, reflection and memoir type stories. It reminded me a bit of a one-woman play of sorts.
The first 1/3-1/2 of the book was sort of random except I connected more to some bits but after the first half, I found more to connect with and then with the last few chapters, I found it enlightening and connected quite a bit to that part.
It's a bit like a collection of mini-memoir essays that talk about being a woman, a child, growing up, figuring things out and having an enlightening moment of rising above hard times, etc.
If you're looking for a short listen with some quirkiness memoir type stories and such then you might enjoy this.

Gareth von Kallenbach (980 KP) rated Playing with Fire (2019) in Movies
Nov 7, 2019
The movie Playing With fire starring John Cena and directed by Andy Fickman was a delight to watch.
Filled with clean family-friendly humor, and touching moments, it is a great film for the whole family to watch together.
It tells the story of a no nonsense smoke jumper named Jake Carson, and how he learns that relationships and family provide support and “keep you going” when life gets tough.
The cast was hilarious!
Especially Keegan Michael-Key who kept the audience laughing with his perfect timing.
John Cena shone in his role of Jake Carson.
While they kept the audience laughing, they also brought a lot of heartfelt moments.
One of my favorite moments was when they were planning a surprise birthday party for one of the 3 kids they were watching because they were survivors of a forest fire.

Rebecca Billcliff (2409 KP) rated Hey Duggee in TV
Nov 12, 2019 (Updated May 23, 2021)
Duggee is one of those programs for small children that knows adults are stuck watching it over and over. To help combat parental insanity, they throw in the odd grown-up joke, and I live for it.
When my lad decides to put Duggee on instead of some of the other inane crap there is for babies out there (and yes, he chooses, because he is a lockdown baby who at 18 months knew the code to the ipad, and how to put Netflix on, and chose the "kids" profile!), it makes my day.
I have honestly found it hard to get sick of this program, each time it comes on, I spot something new, a joke I missed, some subtle detail, it has (so far) not got old.
Now give me a Duggee hug!
