Cranky Dad UK (11 KP) rated The Incredibles 2 (2018) in Movies
Jul 17, 2018 (Updated Jul 17, 2018)
Incredibly good fun.
Incredibles 2 is a fast paced, funny and visually jaw dropping experience.
The story carries on immediately after the first one finishes and deals with the struggle of parenthood, in an intelligent and relatable way.
All the laughs and stunning action sequences are there as hoped for and boy do the set pieces look amazing.
It's a shame we have had to wait so long for this sequel but when you watch it, it feels like the super family have never been away.
A superbly entertaining sequel.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Ocean’s 8 (2018) in Movies

Decent heist film
I didn't see any reviews before seeing this so I had an open mind. I didn't expect much but found it enjoyable enough as a fan of the the other films. The cast is overall impressive, although Helena Bonham Carter was a bit panto and Rihanna doesn't have many lines. I thought James Corden was miscast as the insurance investigator. Cate Blanchet and Anne Hathaway stood out the most.
It doesn't have the Razmatazz and humour of the original, but it did have a couple of ties to the other films. Don't expect anything too deep or meaningful and you should enjoy it.

Feels like a throw back to 90's action films
Bloody good
You have to have an open mind for this type of film. The first was a classic and the series along with Avp has gone down hill mainly since. Although @Predators (2010) was OK.
This has a vibe more in keeping with the original. Gory kills, the humour and camaraderie of the soldiers. Along with the finale. The action overall is pretty good. The only downside is the rather silly storyline at times and the Predator dog. A film to enjoy rather than take too seriously.

Ross (3284 KP) rated Cable & Deadpool Vol. 2: The Burnt Offering in Books
Oct 18, 2018
This collection follows on from volume 1 (obviously). The events in that story arc have enhanced Cable's powers and he is now a Godlike figure. Weirdly similar to the Steven Erikson's Rejoice which I read at the same time, Cable uses his powers to help the human race and is treated with suspicion and attempts to stop him helping.
There is decent interaction with the X-Men as well as a number of minor supers all trying to stop Cable, but it really comes down to Deadpool to save the day.
Much more Deadpool content here than in vol 1 and more humour, which is needed to cut through Cable's nonsense.

What a great book! I highly recommend it to people who struggle with anxiety and worry. I gave this book such a high rating as I was able to relate to it and I very much took to the dry, sarcastic humour of the author, I found myself laughing out loud on several occasions. I liked the activities that were included so you could turn the advice into something more practical to see if it works for you. The 'Hammock Time' was also very good I thought, it allowed self reflection at the end of each chapter. Overall, I was very impressed with this book.

Absolutely superb...until the cast change.

This is a truly superb show, or at least it was to start with. The humour can be brilliantly stupid, and the casting is absolutely perfect.
Unfortunately, with the start of series 4, there came a new cast member following a previous character being killed off, possibly due to other acting commitments. But the show shouldn't have replaced the character. The new casting replaces the young, daft, jack-the-lad character with an irritating Essex boy type character, who now seems completely out of place with the programme and the rest of the cast.

Barry Newman (204 KP) rated Bad Santa 2 (2016) in Movies
Jan 11, 2020
Meh
The original movie was a real guilty pleasure. Dark, twisted, funny and something very different from the million other saccharine and sentimental Christmas movies out there. The sequel is unfortunately very disappointing, it seems to think just consistently swearing is an acceptable substitute for actual humour . The writing is very weak and none of the actors look like they want to be there. It feels like a contractual obligation and a waste of talented actors like Billy Bob Thornton and Kathy Bates. The delightfully weird sandwich obsessed Thurman Murman does provide a bit of amusement and a few callbacks to the superior original but overall this is a poor sequel.
