I listened to this book over a course of 3 weeks back and forth to work. The story captured my attention immediately, but without listening to in continuously, I lost my place sometimes. This is the first book I have read by Jesmyn Ward, and this book was brought to my attention through her new book [bc:Sing, Unburied, Sing|32920226|Sing, Unburied, Sing|Jesmyn Ward|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1499340866s/32920226.jpg|53537916] which came out earlier this year. I'm not sure if I would have given this book a higher rating if I would have read it directly instead of listening to it. But I did enjoy it and look forward to reading Sing, Unburied, Sing.

Possibly my favourite movie and have watched and rewatched countless times.
The beauty of the movie is the familiarity of the subject matter, I was not born until 1979 but the trials and tribulations of teenage life presented here will be comfortable and accessible to any viewer.
The cast of (then) unknowns largely seem custom made for each individual character, and the casting of even the small roles was nailed with perfect execution.
The soundtrack keeps everything ticking over like a movie score, so much so I find that hearing a song from the movie will always bring my mind back to that scene (Bob Dylan "Hurricane" a standout)
Linklater would go on to do bigger films, but for my money... None better

Once she finds him and with the water from the storm gradually filling the basement up they both have to find a way past a load of alligators who are now everywhere due to the flash floods and get to safety.
This film is nothing short of ridiculous with some well below par action sequences and wooden acting (especially from the actress playing the daughter) Entirely predictable is the fate of the other characters who happen to appear along the way.
