It's all about those pesky expectations...

If you have seen a good number of action movies then you know that there are certain things that you should expect from them. Not that the stories don't change a bit, but the sequencing, the pacing, the overall feel and vibe of the movie is going to be quite similar. If that's what you have come to expect, you're on the right track here.

Wasn't a terrible movie. Emile Hirsch did a decent enough job in the titular role. Kate Bosworth held her own. Mel Gibson showed up with what has become his own grit and wit. The story is awkwardly similar to Hurricane Heist in many regards, but gets the job done a little better, probably due to stronger acting in general.

Decent popcorn tosser or background noise.

Trying to pigeonhole Crawl is difficult. Kaya S. plays a collegiate swimmer who receives a call from her sister worried about their father, a martinet swimming coach. Florida is facing a Category 5 hurricane and everyone is supposed to evacuate. However, their father went back to their childhood home and is now trapped in the crawlspace with shock from an alligator bite. Now father and daughter must battle farm-raised alligators. I am pretty sure that building a drain pipe near an alligator farm in storm-threatened Florida was boneheaded as was having both male and female gators. The movie never really addresses the eggs Kaya finds except for one scene with a baby gsator that possibly nips her. One doesn't go to a creature feature expected highly intelligent characters or plot so overall the film entertains and leaves the audience joyfilled.

Thank you for your review. I really want to see this!!

Its Fantasy Fest time, a week and a half long party for adults on Key West leading up to Halloween. Hayley Snow is busy covering the event for the magazine where she works. Meanwhile, her mom is in Key West to get remarried. Then a woman dies and Hayley’s co-worker Danielle becomes the prime suspect. Oh yeah, and there’s a hurricane that might be heading to the island as well.

As you can see, there’s plenty to keep your interest. That kept the pages turning although I did feel it weakened the ending of the actual mystery a bit. That’s a minor complaint overall with the wonderful characters and the festive atmosphere of the island. If you need an arm chair vacation, this is the book for you.

Black and Blue (2019)
Black and Blue (2019)
2019 | Action, Crime, Drama
Black and Blue focuses on a rookie police officer returning to New Orleans after leaving in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. She is abruptly faced with the realization that corruption not only exists within her hometown police department, but it may be far more extensive than could be imagined. She also has to cope with the knowledge that a HUGE wedge has been driven between the PD and the local community and the fracture that exists may be too large to mend.

Naomi Watts is wonderful and convincing in the lead role with several supporting cast members rounding things out perfectly. Tyrese Gibson shows a depth generally not seen in most cases as a sort of liaison simply trying to keep peace but quickly finding himself embroiled in the middle of it all.

At times predictable, at times redeeming. Worth giving a go if you have the time.
